The other metric not understood by most is that, if one is in the business of "price controlled" items only, (correctly stated above as margin control) a business would not survive. I order to accommodate margin controlled items the balance of inventory items not controlled will have a greater margin to compensate for that imbalance. Simple economics. Price control is harmful period.
The government no more can control inflation than they can control crime, or even their own treasury pillaging and thievery. The one thing government can do is lower the cost of their own services and taxes, however, that brings other issues as they cannot currently fund all the areas of spending they are currently in, and half of which they should not be in. Local gouging is not the issue, Bahamian income and economic opportunity is diminishing while costs are rising. Understand the problem then you may find a solution.
There are a number of problems here, all of which are endemic: 1) as with every administration that presides over a hurricane event, they are learning from scratch. There is no continuity on processes, policy, structure, nada. 2) if she was asked to do the job, and the government agreed to the terms, who is stupid? Not her. Would be the Dumb ass in government that agreed and signed the contract. 3) There is still no procedural manual. So the next Government will have no prior experience to draw on. Not that they would if it did exist. That plus all the senior civil servants who gain the experience either get politically retired or retire naturally by the time the next one hits. The NEMA act is garbage without experienced people to administer it. Very Dangerously it gives Government the power to confiscate YOUR Goods and ASSETS to administer themselves as they see fit. Don't believe me? Look it up. Thank God none thus far have been stupid enough to try it. 4) Government response after Dorian took 6 weeks. For 6 weeks Civil servants stand back, un-instructed. Private sector efforts happen within hours. The blessing in that is Customs/Immigration/Police don't get in the way in that 6 weeks. (4 weeks post Matthew, 6 weeks post Dorian)
If he is simply shifting from the union feeding trough (at the expense of members) to the Government feeding trough(at the expense of the general public) so be it, The danger is to the fragile economy and cost of living in the Bahamas, if he does indeed "agitate" from within, rather than behave as any decent government officer should, which is represent/serve all citizens. Time will tell.
Re-ignite Freeport, not a good analogy considering recent events at the International Bazaar! However, that building in the heart of downtown needs to be freshened up. Who knows, they may start a trend.

If one considers we have pretty much been inept/stumbling from pillar to post on our transition from Colony to Self determination/commonwealth country status, it would be lunacy to contemplate transitioning to status as a republic. Get the simple things pursuant to restoring basic rule of law straight first.
So, lets get this straight: the original scope of work was itself incomplete, but had cost overruns anyway, however $ 3.2.was budgeted for but has not been paid out, and works doesn't have the money. Now it is going to cost another $31m to finish. Ludicrous but oh so typical and expected.
Forget Foreigners taking 6 months, bahamians opening business accounts take 6 months plus! That is the most ridiculous aspect of doing business as a bahamian. The Banks make the Government look like Speedy Gonzalez!
that they would pay out to cronies that which the courts declared should not be, but fail to pay judgements the courts determine should be paid, speaks volumes about the lack of calibre of our elected leadership.
