"*if Gardiner knew that he couldn't run or won't run, why give Bahamians false hope????*"
To everything **before** "*false hope*", because he's a world class athlete. They go until their body tells them no way.
To "*false hope*" specifically, we give that to ourselves. We hype up expectations for many of these meets based on emotion rather than reality. We guh win because we is The Bahamas. You need some of that, but reality also has to be in the mix. Up to today, nobody would even acknowledge that Shaunae was injured. I'm not surprised that she was not able to finish her race. But that doesnt make her less of an athlete to me because I didnt over hype my expectation.
Stevie is injured, he's been injured before, he's healed and continued to excel. There's noone else on the men's side who could run for us and medal. Let him recover for his next meet.
Stevie's job is to run, and his livelihood is based on funding from his sponsors. As much as The Bahamas means to him, we dont put food on his table. I dont think he'd arbitrarily drop a race.
They also said:
"*he's in distress whether pain or discomfort. Won't know until an examination is done... Claude Bryan, chief executive officer of "On Time Management," Gardiner's agents, confirmed that Gardiner had some issues around his left ankle and the tendon in that area.... He and his team had worked around the clock the past two weeks trying to get him in a state of ready for the title defense*"
I believe this will be the same for Shaunae. I'm told by an expert that hamstrings take 6 weeks to heal... actually more accurately, they are "*advised*" to take 6 weeks for healing. It's only been 4 weeks. If she had an easy race she might pull a win off by cruising, but this is the olympics that leg is going to be under stress... we'll know between tomorrow and Tuesday if she's ok.
For Bahamians who make it big, like major league athletes for example. Stay away from the wild parties and the people who try to drag you to the wild parties. Keep your feet planted in Grammy house... well .... unless grammy was trying to hide the automatic weapon as the police searched the house.
My rational brain says, if this were your friend, you didnt have a clue that they were engaging in these practices, I could see someone saying "this isnt the person I know", and it would be somewhat hard to wrap your mind around the fact that the evidence says, you never really knew the person you know. This is different I think. Having been 2000 degrees separated from Nygard and any of his activities, even I heard rumours about the wild and crazy happenings out Lyford Cay. Hubert Ingraham in fact told his ministers to stay far away from him and his money. Someone who was right next to him for years must have heard and seen more. Much more if the video released of one "party" with people having casual conversations as Nygard walked around and did what he did had any significance. Right?
I read and re-read, maybe I missed it, maybe misread, but where did he finish overall? Should have been in the first sentence/paragraph. It's amazing to see a Bahamian competing in the decathlon, it's almost unheard of. That's the sport only the superhumans do and Mullings is with them. Amazing.
"*the World Relays in May in the Bahamas, the team of Russell, Shaunae Miller-Uibo, Steven Gardiner and Shania Adderley clocked 3:14.86*
These were my question from as far back as the World Relays, one, how did we rank compared to the other A-teams and how long does it take for a hamstring injury to heal? Poland in 5th, beat our time by 3 seconds and In olympic track, the standings are separated seconds sometimes tenths of a second. Without either Shaunae or Stevie, e.g., even if Stevie had run but Shaunae didnt, a medal was not likely even though the team did their best. It's also why adding Shania over Lecarthea could have only been a political PR stunt. In general I agree with the Rhodes scholar, the BOC members should step down, we cant have such poor judgement when objective measures are right in front of us.
We can go on emotion in political campaigns but in track, the measures are clear and objective and they dont lie
I'd originally thought Otabor would medal but then realized she's ranked number one NCAA but that doesnt include professional athletes or Europeans who tend to dominate these throwing events. She's not ranked 8th in the world, which is great, 4ft behind the best throw. I'd damper the expectations of a medal there but not impossible.
My estimate was 2-3 medals, I'll stick to that. Stevie and Devine. I havent even seen Shaunae in the pictures so not clear at all if she's healthy enough to run.

We actually dont need to know if he's "*seriously*" injured. The best news would be if he stopped at "*discomfort*" before a serious injury.
