I dont understand why they see this as a "betrayal". Maybe they need to explain the circumstances better. But it always made sense to me that companies would seek to find ways to make up for the extra 2400 they had to pay every minimum wage employee per year. And if that means cutting 2 out of 10 people making 13,000 each that is what they'd do. The statement by the labour department on January 3rd that they *see no negative impact from increase in minimum wage*was really astounding and premature, only time will tell if businesses feel they can generate activity to cover the cost increase or whether they will seek cost savings elsewhere. This is what economic analysis is all about understanding the ramifications of monetary decisions or even policy decisions that impact the monetary system. It's clear the administration launched a number of surface level feel good and not so feel good initiatives with zero research, "indepth" research
I hope this isnt the case, but it looks like stories that make Davis look bad are generally wide open for comment. Others involving people with favour are closed outright or closed quickly. I really hope that's not the case. A more kind take might be they no longer have the staff to police the comments? The *suggest removal button* should take care of truly offensive commentary as opposed to commentary that someone just doesnt like. If govt were open with information there'd be less conspiracy theories. I notice the police talking about prosecuting people for this prison break story, my mind wonders if there was a "*disturbance*" that was quelled or if the account was completely fabricated. Stop hiding information, noone thinks you're doing a stellar job anyway
On a side note why would police prosecute anyone for saying there was a prison break? I'm still trying to sort the merits of that. Just put out a statement to say its false
Village Road is not safe. A car fell in a trench. A car would not fall in a trench on a safe road. As @Sickened says, in developed countries they would make it impossible for anyone but the suicidal to drive into a trench without intentionally bypassing double, triple, and quadrupled warning layers
What does this mean for home run businesses where you dont own the building? In the past 10 years I've never seen such anti innovative tactics ever. It shows an increasing inability for either administration to run revolutionary programmes and foster growth through innovation. We just simply have the wrong representation, they're just interested in ensuring they give out 300 school bags in August, roses for valentines and a Turkey for Christmas along with the obligatory smiling photo billboard. That's the extent of representation for 80% of our MPs. And the FNM will cry foul about it now but they'll come in and continue the same dystopian policy. **Its also rather interesting considering that the govt just raised road traffic fees, minimum wage, electricity rates and reduced margins for retailers all at once. And dont forget NIB, that coming. Along with the floating of increased borrowing from the IMF, I'd really like to see the economic study that suggested all this. The only thing I can imagine that would cause all of this nonsensical tax pressure is we are on the verge of complete and utter collapse, dont mind the PR and fanfare on tourism numbers. What are they actually doing.** The danger is if we are, noone will admit it, it would be suicide for the country. We need a different kind of representation
It's strange. It appears as if they're just plugging figures in an Excel sheet and moving numbers around to guesstimate how much they can make. It doesnt have to make sense like charging VAT on customs duties which is neither a good or as service, it's just a rigged up formula to increase the real VAT rate to 15% or so.
There doesnt appear to be any economic analysis going on, just blind and blunt cracking of the whip by the tax man like those period pics where the tax man takes the family goat and chickens if they cant pay the annual levy
"*Securities Commission chief also alleged that, when contacted by herself on November 9, 2022, FTX’s Bahamian attorney, Allyson Maynard-Gibson KC, said she was unaware of the turmoil engulfing the crypto currency exchange despite extensive global media coverage of the liquidity crisis that would lead to its collapse within days.*"
Stretches credulity, but after days of corresponding email, nobody saw Sam's email saying he was going to illegally transfer funds to Bahamain clients so I suppose any ignorance is possible in the Bahamas
**This was the statement from the Ministry last week**
"*The ministry has been advised that there is no extensive pressure on the fuel holding tanks. However, **Ferix and heavy fuel oil have been observed on the water’s surface**. Ferix is a slightly corrosive chemical used for water treatment and fertiliser,” according to the statement.*
"*The public is being advised that measures are being taken to address the incident, which includes the deployment of ocean booms and efforts to seal leaking fuel vents by divers. A skimmer boat is enroute to the site.”*
**This is their statement today:**
*I’ll like to report there is **no oil spill that report is erroneous. The slick on top of the water is residue from the dissolving shipment that they were carrying, which is ferix**, which is non-toxic, it is more like a corrosive,” Mr Pinder told The Tribune.* "
**I see that Fridays statement didnt mistake Ferix for oil, it specifically referenced ferix AND oil** but who are we, they still deny the high rate of cancer around the oil refineries in Freeport. After Rubis, who knows what other toxins cabinet secrecy hides
Ok **this is completely ridiculous, the govt estimated that they would earn 2m annually from air flight fees. The FAA earned 80,000 from providing like services. The airlines to date have paid 20m. What is Chester Cooper fighting? Our right to charge exorbitant fees because this our country? Clearly this is far more than they expected to earn and benchmarked against FAA numbers, the fees are at ridiculous and unsupportable levels**. Stop justifying nonsense and search for ways to grow the economy so Bahamian and non Bahamians are freed from these ridiculous and anti-innovative VAT, customs duties and service charges
