Its clear to me you folks no nothing about police and court procedures, If its in the Coroner's court, there is nothing no one else can do. The coroner's court is not a police entity, it is a court. It has nothing to do with politics even though some of us are indicating it does. I assure you this is not the last police shooting. Many don't know what it is to be on the front line. We go to bed and sleep every night..and call 919 when there is a problem, that's all we do. We sit here and make smart comments. I always say if you can do better wear the uniform,

Members of the Free National Movement (FNM) on Wednesday claimed that the lights were cut off to all public schools in Grand Bahama after the government allegedly did not pay the bills.

According to a press statement issued by FNM Member of Parliament for Central Grand Bahama and Shadow Minister of Public Works Neko Grant the government-run school on that island are now all in darkness.

“Despite all their slick and fancy talk about a streamlined process and consolidation of balances to improve efficiency in the 2014/2015 national budget, this administration still can’t do something as simple as pay the light bills so that the electricity stays on in the Grand Bahama schools,” he said.

“The people of Grand Bahama deserve more and they deserve better.”

Mr. Grant also lashed out at Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Perry Christie over the matter.

“The Christie government has consistently proven themselves to be incapable of doing basic administrative functions. It is no wonder that large scale projects they brag about cannot get off the ground in any meaningful way,” he said.

A Free National Movement parliamentary team in Grand Bahama reported to the party that power was disconnected at all government schools.

The team said that the disconnection is to be blamed on non-payment and called the fiasco “an absolute disgrace.”
Journal reporters were able to speak with National Chairman of the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) Bradley Roberts who said up to that time he had not heard anything of the incident.

“I just spoke with someone from Grand Bahama and they did not say anything to me,” he said.

Numerous calls were also made to Member of Parliament for West Grand Bahama and Bimini Obie Wilchcombe, Minister of Education Jerome Fitzgerald, the Director of Education Lionel Sands, the Bahamas Union of Teachers President Belinda Wilson, including several schools in Grand Bahama and the Grand Bahama Power Company; none of whom were available to make comment.

On ‘Deputy PM unfit for office’

These fellas dem is forget so soon.. the let the current commissioner of act in the capacity of deputy commissioned for 3 years, same with the RBDF commander, Brave was the DPM, it wasn't urgent then, now it urgent to get a CJ in place, fellas dem does make me laugh...

TigerB says...

I wonder what all the stink is about, when there was no Commissioner of Police there was an acting one, life went on for the force.. while there was a need to have a COP the acting commissioner worked just fine. There is an acting CJ, he has all the powers and privileges of a sitting one. The "Acting" rank works with every arm of the government. So in essence there is a CJ, the office of the CJ is till be carried out, he is just acting.

The now appointed Commander of the RBDF acted for more than 3 years, the PLP never confirmed him, it took a change in government to get him confirm. Ask Brave, he knows about it...that was an important post as well. These stuff happens all the time.

I can't say Grand Bahamians are looking for hand out sir, It seem we always forget how this all started, 2004 by two ladies name France and Jean, the 2005 another woman, Wilma, that connected to the 2007 thru 2012 recession where all the hotels were already damaged. More hurricanes came and wipe out what was left. We have had our time. Both governments, the current one and the former tried, to bring this island back, we not looking for handouts here. GB people are strong, resilient, and are only asking for what they deserve. Those other southern islands experience their fair share of hurricanes, but Nassau has been speared so far, keep praying cause if it happen there, dog eat they lunch too... less we forget,

I'm very aware of the current situation, they are still working out the details, like you said it was some time ago. We all will know when it settled, then we can say that we have a buyer. I'm not concern about what was said between the gov't and Wynn, only thing matter is the signature, that will put people to work. If they don't have it, they have no deal. So far no announcement that it was sold yet... no dotted line was sign as yet, in essence, no buyer. I live 8 minutes away from Port Lucaya.

Maybe we should look at why did it close in the first place and whose administration it closed under and which administration could not get open before this current administration. like Baha Mar, this was closed under the PLP and the casino long before that...they not trying to run anything, they trying to reopen what closed under the former government. Something cannot be sold until there is a buyer to purchase it... All this government bashing on here is not helping anyone as far as I can see. They are the government, like it or not and we stuck with them for four more years, its no guarantee they will change either after those four years, as bad as they seem... wish the best for them,
