Mr. McGregor,

The reason for this outlook is because (and I say this as politely as possible) your public relations are akin to the contents and appearance of an unwashed, outside toilet.

Your social media posts are abhorrent. Turning comments on and off sends a terrible message. Posts about giving seniors breakfast if they pay their bill screams of cringy corporate slime. Posting about suicide prevention after you caused mass power outages which can be dangerous to people with mental health challenges, common guys. Praising yourselves for fixing an issue with pictures of your CEO in her cute pink hat is insulting.

Overall the optics are absolutely terrible. even this article screams "out of touch" and "removed from reality" Lets look at how you can fix your community relations.

Tell your customers the truth. Where have you have been investing the storm recovery fee. Not a silly facebook post, an actual breakdown.

Stop playing the numbers to your advantage. You are quick to say the base rate and fuel surcharge are completely separate when topics such as; your being one of the most expensive power producers in the world. But suddenly customers must now consider their all in price will be cheaper? Please, we don't trust you at all.

Redirect your social media for the love of sanity.

Grow some corporate testicular fortitude. Stop hiding, and lying, and praising your terrible service and price. Be a good corporate citizen.

Tell people the truth to the answers they want to hear. Are you intending to implement pay as you go meters in the most vulnerable households? Are you desperate to sell, are you trying to sell? Are you guaranteed a percentage profit in your license agreement? Did you invest anything after the storm, or are you doing the bare minimum to sell and leave?

Lets make it simple!

Stop lying. Tell the truth. Stop keeping us in the dark figuratively literally. Stop charging $1,200.00 a month to a normal first world home with energy efficient appliances. Keep people informed of your daily challenges and future plans.

This is a tough sell. It may seem intriguing to an investor at first glance, but once due diligence is done they find out some hard truths.

The island is not a tourist destination.

The island is not appealing to tourists.

Any resort needs to be completely self contained.

Port Lucaya is one step away from becoming the bazar. It is run down, an eye sore, and not what you want as the selling point to modern tourists. It needs to be totally rebuilt.

The cost to construct and run the resort is not feasible in our local market.

The corporate responsibility is way to high. They are expected to save us, hire us, redefine our islands product offering, save port Lucaya, be the driving force for the airport, and take care of the hair braiders, taxies, straw market, scooter rentals etc.

The finished product will have to be very expensive. Filling it with tourists of that caliber will be tough.

The destination cannot be offered to our traditional cheap tourists unless a cruise line is involved.

As always, I wish them all the luck in the world. I just wish there was more vision, and a long term plan for Freeport.

When you look at the average all in price of power in Florida it is $0.13 cents per kilowatt hour.

My last bill when adding up all the fees is $0.43 cents per kilowatt hour.

Now, it depends where you look, but it can be argued that we are the 3rd or 4th highest in the world.

You may argue that it is expected living on an island but-

Trinidad and Tobago $.05
Mauritius $0.13
Aruba $0.21
Jamaca $0.27
Cape Verde $0.31
Cypress $0.33

A middle class bill of 1500kwh is $645.00 here and $195.00 in the U.S.

Please make this make sense, the middle class can't afford 2 mortgage payments a month!

And the government needs to stop! Its not like they are innocent in all this. Their taxes and fees contribute towards the overall price.

If there is actually a regulatory body, they need to demand that the fuel surcharge and fees get included into the total cost of power.

The government and utility provider need to speak up about ways for THEM to decrease the cost of power.

Activists need to hold town hall meetings with legal representatives who can teach average people how to file against the utility in small claims court to replace negligently damaged appliances.

We are far passed needing a 3 day swooping visit.

I think it would be realistic to say that only severe measures will correct the terrible status quo that we have built over decades.

Some ideas are.

That the government immediately request commonwealth assistance in replacing the leadership of every major unit within the police force. Their mandate should be to restore integrity, lawfulness, competency, morals and ethics to daily policing.

That the commissioner of police resign or be replaced immediately.

That the police force no longer govern itself. There should be a non governmental, civilian oversight committee. This should include legal review committees to put a stop to the illegal practices currently in place.

That the minister of national security no longer have control over the commissioner.

Publicly held elections for the post of commissioner.

That the illegal roadblocks be stopped.

That the 3rd world militarization of the police force and all other government agencies stop immediately.

That the police force stop the normalizing the daily carrying of firearms. They should only carry firearms as prescribed by law, and they should not be allowed to interpret the law as they see fit.

That we increase the requirements to become a police officer.

That senior police officers must complete a certain term of service in the United Kingdom.

This is a heartfelt plea, and the owners are obligated to try and fight for their homes.

It still stands that the building realistically needs far in excess of 3.5 million. It would also be realistic to assume that the association is too far in the hole to ever raise 3.5 million.

2 bedroom units have been listed for 35k. It is safe to say that at this stage, with all the media and disrepair that the units are almost worthless. This means they cannot be auctioned for enough to pay moneys owed.

The only hope is if there is a way to secure financing, but what individual or bank would agree to lend when the board and ownership are in as poorer condition as the building itself.

The only entity I can think of that gives money away in such poor circumstances is our government. Perhaps they will "intervene" to show up the Port in their ongoing battle for Freeports hearts and minds.

What really makes me mad is that the simplest thing I need to get done for myself or my business is excruciatingly painful. Meanwhile people get to do this kind of foolishness.

Taxes are so high on vehicles that we created a nation of 3rd world death traps. When taxes are so overwhelmingly expensive we make smuggling a profitable business.

Everyone cheats at the border, its like a national past time, a badge of honor. You are seen as a simpleton if you actually paid.

The taxes collected for airfreight are selectively filled.

Brokerage is a leaky bucket.

How many businesses did they say file and remit VAT? 6% or 8% or something?

Our tax collection is wild, but we cant change it, just like we cant change any government service because we will never ever fire anyone. All we can do is add more tax, hurdles, and then of course, loopholes.

We so badly need a reset on all red tape and bureaucracy.

TimesUp says...

Why have we become like this. Every government agency feels it should be militarized.

There is absolutely no reason why we should be behaving like this. Immigration, Customs, even the police have no business dressing and acting like this.

On top of being scary and intimidating, its just embarrassing. Look at them, look at Immigration when they get all dressed up, or at the military style road blocks. We are trying so hard to be a 3rd world militarized joke of a nation.

When I have my kids or foreign friends in the car and go through a road block I feel ashamed at what we have become. It perpetuates a vision of criminality and unease.

The uniforms are always mismatched, if you are a military branch you should be disciplined as such. Ever seen them with the intimidating face masks?
