At what point did decency and good order become a racial phenomenon? The Bahamian people have every right to expect the vendors on Porters Cay to provide a clean, aesthetically attractive, crime free environment for its patrons. In fact the vendors should completely embrace the actions being taken by the dock manager and the police. Businesses with the luxury of low to no raw capital cost for prime land and ridiculously low rental and overhead cost, ought not to feel entitled, but should instead be made to contribute a minimum of 20% of their revenue to a Porters Cay development and sustenance fund. This place has the potential to become an extension of Festival Place or the cultural village at Atlantis. Opportunities should always be given to those who will get the job done rather than to the conically entitled.

Interesting! While I am absolutely convinced that there are many contributions which could be made by the Rt. Hon Prime Ministers Ingraham and Christie (Retired), I am at a complete loss as to why they need to be asked. Both men have been exposed to high levels of leadership for many years. Leaders do not ask permission, they do so from wherever they find themselves at any given time. The text " Your Gifts Will Make Room For You" is still true and relevant. How about activating those inherent gifts, excavating a path and allowing the world to recognize your genius gentlemen? Even in the absence of external recognition for legacy purposes, it would at least prove to be a small step toward the advancement of the work and individual self-actualization.

Thank God for good friends and neighbors! Now is the time for all hands to be on deck. "Many hands make work lite" This is absolutely the time to pray gratuitously for speared life and limb, but not the time to merely watch while others render much needed assistance. "Whatever thy hands finded to do, do it with all thy might". The same God who has showered us over many years with abundance and goodness, will do it again! Full physically invested optimism will not only ease the pain, but will also accelerate the speed of recovery. While it may be difficult now, for many this will prove to be a great opportunity for a new and fresh start.

So at what point does citizen responsibility and personal discipline kick in? Simple things like paying taxes honestly and on time, paying the hospital when you use the services, being productive and not cheating your employer or fellow citizen, wanting something for nothing,,,, Perhaps lessons on the mechanics of government and personal finances should be taught in schools from the elementary level. Disciplined societies which embrace the principals of shared responsibility tend to do extremely well. The paternalistic model with the government as our daddy has not worked well for us. Why not try a bottom up model of personal discipline and responsibility, which will resolve at least fifty percent (50%) of our issues?
