Very true sheeprunner... And many would actually argue that the CIA has been involved in the gun and narcotics trade themselves. While i'm not saying the CIA ARE or ARE NOT doing this, i wouldn't be surprised if it were true
Greenslade came out hard these past few days, and to me he look like the only Man round here putting a dent in serious crime. I do not doubt that that man there have to deal with enough political shenanigans always dancing in-between him and his ability to get a firm handle on this generation of OutLaws
Countries who don't out and out grant automatic citizenship have at least mitigating circumstances that can allow the Baby to gain a citizenship, such as 'settlement' , 'naturalization' , temp / permanent residence, etc.
In the Bahamas there are many hurdles for people attempting to immigrate. Many foreigners (non-Haitians) come here for work (as historically there has been an issue with qualified locals) and work hard for years unable to get off a yearly work Visa.
THIS is actually the issue: how the law is applied.
Nassau has GATED counties..... i.e. Communities of mostly non-Bahamaians who want to live here, but don't want to live amongst the locals. So on our own island we are walled out of these gated communities, and somehow we're all happy about this. Why? because those people are rich, and as such automatic friends of the Gov't.
At the end of the Day the fact that Bahamains don't like, and don't want Haitians is all that seems to matter. The laws are made, interpreted and applied to this end. Any non-Haitians affected by this have to just deal, because clearly the Haitians are an absolute evil.
The wanton disregard for the law, and it's very unbalanced application is what is doing Damage to the country. Mrs. B wants the rule of law to be respected and applied equally. That desire is only damaging to criminals.
Tourist should not be afraid of violence on the Island. The News and us commentators tend to add allot of hype to crime here, but the realities are that most crime occurs in "over the hill" communities which are away from the Downtown area (literally... OVER the other side of the Hill).
Also those targeted by violent crime are usually known to and specifically targeted by the assailants.
The most you have to worry about is is being over charged for pretty much everything on Paradise Island. ($5USD for a cheapo lighter??!! that's crime o_o)
