You are right except for one thing. This started more than 20 years ago. The beginning of this societal decay began in the Pindling era with the influx of drugs.

I am really tired of the "single mother" blame. Where is the evidence that crime is the result of having a single mother? We have always had single mothers in our society but we have not always had this level of crime. Also, it takes two to make a baby, yet no one mentions the men who create these children and then take no responsibility for them. No, the blame is always on women. So tired of the misogyny in our society.

UserOne says...

We have brought that on ourselves with our crime.

It is not only black Bahamians affected by this issue. This is not a racial issue; it is a Bahamian issue. When we make things a racial issue then we feel we have no control over them. We need to think Bahamian and think coming together to demand more of our governments.

Since the criminals are killing each other, they do not appear to be afraid of being killed. Therefore, I don't see capital punishment as a deterrent. We should be looking to places that have had success in reducing crime and see how it was done. For example, New York had a very high crime rate and when Guiliani served as mayor of New York, crime dropped by more than 56%.

This shows that when people are not complacent and demand better of government we get results. We must keep it up!

Well said lKalikl. You hit the nail on the head. It has never been a race issue. It has always been a haves and a have nots issue. Race is used as a distraction so the have nots won't see that.

I think Loretta has established herself as a politician and therefore can succeed as an independent candidate. Personally, I would like to see more independent candidates to choose from so that they are not inhibited by party politics.
