Capital punishment does work - contrary to so called world liberal studies. At least, capital punishment works for the “one” that it is binding on! Further, we ought to get rid of the privy council altogether; it represents a colonial handicap to our so called independence! Replace the governor general with a head of state president. Get rid of the parliamentary form of government; have all politicians elected - senate, local government, each island ought to have a governor, with mayors, local government etc. with more autonomy from this tired centralized form of government we have! Term limits for every elected official! Let’s get on with real independence. Do a complete study of all land ownership; legislate - no more than 15 - 20 % of the country will be owned by foreigners, ever; lease land to investors - do not give it away! Tax all private land - used and unused. Decentralize investment out of New Providence. Create an economy that puts people to work. The failure to do so is causal for much of the crime in the nation. No elected official can be in office over the retirement age. Dr. Minnis is on the right track on this one - it might give his party traction for the future...
, more to come.

Declaring a war on crime is a bunch of baloney. Nixon declared the war on drugs, Reagan declare the war on terrorism, but they all grew diametrically since those declarations! I will tell you what is needed - since declaring war on anything…, appears degenerating - those non productive lawyer politicians ought to declare: Peace on the Economy! Perhaps peace on the economy will be successful in bringing about a positive change in the economy.

Causal - when a person has no job, no income, they have to eat, drink, pay rent, the electricity bill, mortgage and whatever else. When that person sees his/her family hungry - they will sometimes do anything to ease the burden on their love ones. We look to politicians to help; especially when they tell us they can help at election times. Politicians are better off than most of us. But once elected their promises goes out the window. They no longer seek to help the 99% - they go the other way and cling to the moneyed elites. They leave us to bushwhack one another for survival. The attack on the DPM could happen to any one of us and has happened to many of us already! We cannot really take a bite out of crime - until we change the causal predicament: economics, the economy, jobs, income! The whole society is at risk until we solve the cause - only then will there be a different effect.

Once again a Haitian boat came all the way into the Bahamas and we know nothing about it until they are on land. RBDF and RBPF has to search and find them on land; then, repatriate them to Haiti. Again and again at cost to the tax payers. Why is it that the Ministry of National Security refuses to establish its own DRONE surveillance system. Drones can find a boat and give the coordinates to the RBDF - they interdict the vessel before it is able to get into the central Bahamas, or further. Activate a Drone system Mr. Minister and stop this obvious unneeded apathy! The technology is available and cheap. Amazon.com is delivering packages to customers in the US by drones. What are you doing Mr. Minister of National Security? Get up to date man! Forward, upward, onward together.

Vain And Terrible (VAT)! Do income tax, or a sale tax of 5% on everything without exception.

With the salary and perks you guys make - all of you should pay for your expenses when you travel abroad! All of you waste the people’s money at home and when you travel. Politicians are “all” better off financially, after they are elected; why is that?

VDSheep says...

All you fat cat politicians spend our money and borrow more and say you are making it better for us. How much money did the FNM borrow from the IMF, World Bank etc. during your tenure…, you all spend the people’s money and accuse one another. That is called politics and all of you PLP’s and FNM’s have a minor in it! What’s in your wallet?

What government negotiated this deal with the union - to be paid by BEC when sick and be paid by NIB also - it’s a lot of pork in this deal to the BEC union and whatever agency of the government that has a sweetheart deal like that! It seems more financially viable to be on sick leave than to work. However, if that’s the agreement it ought to be honored, until you cut a new contract. I guess Leslie Miller and many others has issues with the deal in this economy - it seems greedy, by folks who cannot pay their electricity bill.

Another example of our lackey politicians that depends on foreign entities to protect our country. The video ought to be seen when this Haitian boat first entered Bahamas territory. NATO and the US with drones, satellites, planes and helicopters - are so called monitoring the country; yet Haitian vessels and others can come into the center of the country and beyond before we know about them. This is unacceptable - PLP and FNM governments cannot get it through their house boy colonial slave boy mentality and monitor the country on their own. We need our own drones to monitor the Bahamas. Foreign surveillance has their own agendas and it does not necessarily include our priorities! Get your own drones Ministry of National Security - stop outsourcing our security now!

VAT will eventually shrink government’s revenue; because the overall economy will shrink. VAT will be charged cumulatively at every level of trade for the same commodity. It’s a rotten system on a service based economy as ours; even Briton with more industry is suffering from VAT today. The banks are squeezing government to pay off loans already spent by successive governments. VAT is not the way to go - if you must; replace VAT with income tax based of justice for lower, medium and high income. When there is no vision the people suffer!
