This fringe international organization is a little late with their report which urges quick action to ensure protection from hurricanes is available for our illegal aliens. Their efforts would be better served if they found for our government the funds necessary to do all that they have recommended. Perhaps the IOM itself could see fit to make a much needed donation to our country to assist us in preparing as best we can, with what little resources we now have, for the upcoming hurricane season.

Why do prefer believing a local variation of the schadenfreude effect may have played a part in Sands' resignation? Do you really prefer believing most Bahamians who speak up when an elected official crosses the line suffer from low self-esteem? Or do you believe we should just sit back and accept everything our elected officials say and do because we only have a right to speak up or protest with our ballot come election time?

Agree...but it did take the PM's public announcement that Sands broke protocol to get him there with the expression 'broke protocol' being a euphemism for 'broke the law'.

I'm surprised the marsh mallow headed one (D'Aguilar) was not also named by the PM as having broken protocol in this same matter. But don't hold your breath for a similar letter of resignation from him.

The sensible and most politically expedient thing for Minnis to immediately do:

1) Accept the resignation;

2) Assume the minister of health cabinet post; and

3) Appoint a new minister of state for health or a special Covid-19 Czar to assist him with his additional workload as the new minister of health.

Actually the opposite is true. It's because Bahamians have had an unusually high tolerance for corrupt and/or incompetent elected officials for so long now, that the best and brightest in our society tend to shun seeking elected office. The added problem of course is that, because of the corruption and incompetence throughout government, many of our best and brightest Bahamians never return home to the Bahamas after receiving their first class education at renowned institutions of higher learning abroad.

In the case of a crisis like Covid-19 it's more about how quickly and sensibly government reacts to information from reliable resources.

Notwitstanding the many costly mistakes made, Minnis will of course now decline the mea culpa resignation while espousing the virtues of both Sands and himself as the dynamic duo of doctors tirelessly working to save Bahamians from Covid-19.
