It's frankly beyond comprehension that the vast majority of mistreated and downtrodden Bahamians continue to accept what's been going on here.

It's actually our current political leaders who have failed us in a big way. They were elected to change the course of our country and not give us more of the same corruption while at the same time blaming the PLP, and now Dorian and Covid-19, and whatever else may come along next, for their incompetent and most serious shortcomings in governing.

Sadly, very true.

My youngest daughter is an ER specialist and I have a close nephew who is an anesthesiologist. I'm fairly confident both of them would quickly conclude, as I have done, that you're unbalanced. I pray you're not in any way involved with the treatment of patients, either privately or in our public healthcare system.

Neither Dorian nor Covid-19 transformed us into a directionless nation of beggars. Only one person can lay claim to that achievement. And try as you may to rewrite history, that will most assuredly be this PM's political epitaph.

Downtown will always be the dump that the cruise ship companies turned it into in the first place. Many of us who are old enough remember a much better downtown district when both the Nassau harbour port and the cruise ships were much smaller, and when the ships could not open their onboard shops and casinos to passenger business while in our territorial waters.

Our nation needs to take back control of the cruise ship visitor segment of our tourism industry so that we can ensure that segment fairly contributes to our economy and does not harm (pollute) our environment. We have the excellent climate, the beautiful islands, the plentiful sunshine, and the crystal clear aquamarine waters that their customers, i.e. the cruise ship passengers, are willing to pay dearly to enjoy with a very high percentage of repeat visitors. The only problem is our crooked politicians have allowed the very greedy and corrupt cruise ship companies to created a business model for themselves that puts all of the profits in their pockets with very little left on the table for our nation.

The businesses downtown get mere crumbs from the cruise ship visitors because they are encouraged to spend their money shopping onboard and on entertainment products created for direct selling by the cruise ship companies and their agents. This is why there is no calypso night life downtown for the cruise ship visitors and why many of the downtown retail stores have been reduced to selling cheap foreign made T-shirts and trinkets. And the relatively few Bahamians employed by the cruise ship companies earn pittance with limited or no medical and other benefits.

No, it's hightime we tell these cruise ship companies we are putting ourselves back in the driving seat while there ships our in our waters and if they don't like it they can take their business elsewhere. But we have them over a barrel because there are not too many places in our region of the world with the natural assets and facilities that they need to susutain their business. God has been good to us in terms of our natural environment, and we must never forget it.

Once again, putting hatred of Davis aside, he is absolutely right on this matter. Anyone who has read the supreme court's acquittal ruling in the Minnis-led FNM government's case against Shameless Shane Gibson should also be appalled by the promotion of Deborah Thompson. I'm convinced more than ever that Minnis is either extremely arrogant or he just does not have an ounce of sense upstairs. Whichever, both not good!

What really scares the dickens out of me now is the fact that another hurricance season is less than 30 days away and meteorologists are already finding record high water temperatures in the Atlantic. I have often said Minnis has jinxed our country and its people. Sadly, we have as a people committed way too many transgressions with impunity for way too long a period of time.

Perhaps Minnis as PM is the price we are being made to pay as penance for having offended God. All I know is, everytime we think it can't possibly get any worse under the Minnis-led FNM government, somehow it usually does. One thing is for sure though, returning the governance of our country to the PLP political elite of yore is certainly not the answer for ending our current period of penance - but neither is re-electing most of the present bunch of FNM MPs, especially Minnis.

What does our country earn from allowing all of these Carnival owned cruise ships to have safe haven use of our territorial waters? Are we charging a daily fee per ship? And what about Royal Caribbean and Disney cruise ships doing the same thing? Surely Minnis is not allowing all of these cruise ship companies to use our territorial waters without at least some kind of commensurate benefit being received by The Bahamas. What's the story Minnis? Where's all of that transparency you repeatedly promised us while campaigning in April and May 2017?
