Those funds are for the most part tied up in illiquid investments. And the Central Bank cannot afford to let NIB cashout its Treasury bills. Someone should ask the Director of NIB when was the last time the Board of NIB submitted audited financial statements of NIB to the House of Assembly and Public Accounts Committee, and for which financial year-end? Incidentally, when was the last independent professional actuarial valuation report done for NIB? That report too should be submitted to the HOA and PAC. Minnis certainly will not answer these questions.....he's as just bad as Christie and Ingraham were...actually, more likely worse!
Right on @TheMadHatter. The Director of NIB, Dr Nicola Virgil-Rolle, is just another brain-dead political appointee of Minnis. She and Minister Rolle probably can't reconcile their own personal cheque book registers to their bank statements. And Minnis himself has a hard enough time understanding just about anything to do with debits and credits, especially our national budgets. It seems the stupider they are, the more qualified they are for the job. Small wonder our country has been suffering from a severe brain drain in recent decades. What right thinking well educated decent Bahamian student would want to return to the Bahamas to be stomped on by incompetent buffoons.
Here we see Minnis's greatest character flaws in full bloom: His outright arrogance and nastiness!
Just look at how many times he used the personal pronoun "I" instead of "We". He's clearly having another one of his very dangerous "I am God-like and your Saviour" episodes.
Minnis really needs to listen to himself. On the one hand he says, "What needs to be done will be done and one thing the Bahamian public has to appreciate is the decisions the government makes, **the decisions I make** are based on accuracy and analysis." Then in his next breath he says, "....**it’s not my decision**....". A classic example of someone 'high' on power, but who is unwilling to take responsibility for the exercise of it. He may well be in need of a one-on-one sit down chat with a professional like Dr. Allen.
One has to question whether he's listening to the whisperings in his ears by representatives of Red China. And we all know just how ruthless and inhumane the very secretive Xi Jinping communist regime is in that country. In any event, unlike Red China our economically fragile small nation just doesn't have the resources to keep mass rioting and looting in-check if triggered by overly-restrictive lockdown measures for a prolonged period of time.
Many Bahamians are already at their wits end and there is great risk of things boiling over if Bahamians sense one set of loose rules is for the political elite and their cronies and another set of unduly harsh and punitive rules is for all others. Will the Minnis cure ultimately prove to be worse than the problem itself? Certainly the current draconian isolation measures would have had much greater success had they been done more than two months ago. Oh well, we are where we are thanks to Minnis. Let's hope he enjoyed shooting hoops with his grandson.
Government and The Tribune are doing the public a grave misservice by making it seem that there are only 10 persons infected with the Red China Virus in The Bahamas. Many, many others on New Providence have been infected but just don't know it yet because they have not presented themselves to the healthcare authorities with the symptoms that would trigger them being tested.
Your elitist PLP friends took all of our beaches away from us and gave them to foreign investors......and Minnis has been following in their foot steps, giving the greedy cruise ship companies whatever they ask for with the vast majority of Bahamians and our country getting absolutely nothing in return.
Both Duane Sands and Hubert Minnis as medical doctors know full well that many alcoholics who are made to go cold turkey are likely to develope a very serious medical condition that can result in death if left untreated. Anthony Ferguson probably doesn't know this given that he has proven himself to be nothing but a very daft and dense brute over and over again.
We have an elitist set of past and current politicians who, along with their cronies, are sucking heavily on public treasury with all of their government appointments, etc. Time to cut out a lot of the fat that has been going their way for decades so that others who are becoming increasingly destitute can at least be fed and buy vitally needed medicines.
A wealth tax of 30% on Bahamians like Sir Snake who having been robbing public treasury of its rightful due for decades might just be the medicine needed to help us get through this God awful bad patch.
