All he needs to do is give Sebas and Craig their banking licenses, and they will be happy to vet his proposal, which will allow the ultimate solution to their depository problems, and provide them with a higher return of interest. Commercial banks are not run like government (except for Bank of the Bahamas, and Resolve) and will not be dictated to as to how they manage their portfolios. Another promise that is impossible to keep.
Don't worry, his next speech will bring up the UBP, white supremacy, slavery, and the Bay Street Boys( after fifty years of majority rule), and hope that the grass roots, whom he seeks to incite each election year will forget all about this.
Ronald Reagan fired them all in the USA, and brought in military substitutes, and LOP fired them all in Freeport. They should not be allowed to hold the country and our major industry hostage.
So, Blander, none of the properties being sold by the Bahamas Real Estate Association, on which they earn a 6% commission, are listed on Airbnb? I know they make nothing directly from Airbnb, but the possibility of properties being used for rental income (via Airbnb), has had to have positively impacted the real estate business. Last years figures were up, and as reported in the press this years year-to-date figures are up as well. The rest of the world is managing this phenomenon, so why can't we?
Tal, you are stuck in a time warp. The UBP used to be the big gangsters in the country, but they are amateurs to the PLP gangster machinery. You go with the PLP, that is your right, but somewhere deep down inside, you will eventually realize the folly of your ways.
Come on Mr. Smith. You are far to intelligent to tell us that "you think" you sold two of the properties, and one is somewhere with the lawyers. I know you can do better than that, as you should know what is going on. A thirteen loan portfolio is not a gigantic task to manage, and you should be intimately aware of the status of all thirteen.
I wonder why the realtors, who probably benefit from Airbnb, in the form of investment properties being purchased by locals and foreigners alike, are going to bat for the hotel industry, which is the one of the highest priced, lowest value industries in the Caribbean. With regards to the government collecting room taxes for these rentals, all for that. But, once again, not the real estate associations bailiwick.
Tal, Minnis is his own man, and has demonstrated his tenacity and strength, in winning two leadship elections at convention, and withstanding a revolt and vote of no confidence. He still leads, and is the best option for getting rid of the corrupt PLP, whose leader does not just show signs of, but is visibly being dictated to, by foreigners; to wit, the Chinese, and whoever else comes up with some dream scam to turn the economy around. Lets not forget the PLP's relationship with the numbers boys, who though they are not foreign, have tons of control of the goings on in the current administration.
However, on this issue, Dr. Minnis is correct. It is doubtful that the voters register can be clean by election time. The people responsible for this very important function are either inept, or corrupt, or both.
