What amazes me is that any one listens to what George Smith has to say, and that a person of his questionable political history can garner press coverage.

We are no better off than Cuba when it comes to poor electrical service. The only difference is that we pay for this poor service and theirs is free.

I too, have experienced the same thing out west, having lived adjacent to Governors Beach (the corner where the Liquid Courage Bar is located). This is a small beach, but on holiday weekends and almost every weekend in the summer, residents are unable to get in or out of their homes, and are subjected to some of the most filthy language blaring out of load DJ equipment until the late hours of the night. What is most amazing is that this beach is right next to a timeshare resort (Westwind) and the Melia hotel and is almost across the street from the prime ministers house. The guests of these places must be horrified when these people pump up to volume. Drugs are present, as the smell of ganga wafts through the neighborhood, and if you are interested in observing sexual activities in the sea, take a seat.
The amazing thing is that when you call the police station to complain, they very rarely show up, and when they do, some friend of theirs is participating in the revelry, and nothing is done. Sometimes you see the police coming out with plates of food and beers. If there is no regard for the comfort of our visitors, do you think they give a horses a-s about the rights of the complaining residents. Complaints to the current and former members of parliament for the area, resulted in nothing being done. Thank God I don't live there any longer, but I feel for the suffering of my former neighbours.

Harry,
I agree the electrical problems on New Providence are intolerable and reflect poor planning on governments' behalf but lets not forget that 15 of those 30 years were under the FNM government who were just as bad at resolving our power issues, and were the ones responsible for purchasing the sub-standard generation equipment that is now in use.No government will correct this situation as long as there is money to be made by maintaining the status quo.

A coup planned and executed by lawyers, accountants, and seasoned politicians, but without a sensible goal, or any goal at all. Their loyalty to the party and the Bahamian people has proved to be non-existent, and their lack of vision is evident for all to see. For once I agree with Mr. Bethel.

The sad thing is, that because of all the bickering and infighting between the Minnisites and the Butlerites in the FNM, we have handed the upcoming election to Christie's PLP, on a silver platter. Maybe this is what Loretta's vote of no confidence was meant to do in the first place; splinter the opposition further so that it will be a cakewalk for the political dinosaurs in the PLP. If so, she has succeeded in her mission, and Heaven Help Us All.

The Central Bank of The Bahamas has been, and always will be, a useless regulator. The Clearing Banks Association can dictate what it wants to the Government in light of their reserve deposits at the Central Bank and well as their "forced" participation in Treasury Bills and Govt. stock offerings. The public will get shafted and there is not a damn thing they can do about it, nor does Govt. care a S--T about it. Bend over and get ready.

So lets all vote PLP and keep swimming in the cesspool of bad government and poor fiscal management.

Only a jackass would believe that this .5% drop in the prime rate is going to vastly improve our financial position. How? The majority of loans tied to prime are mortgage loans, and most of these are delinquent. Banks have almost cut off any type of business lending and are focusing once again on consumer loans, which are charged interest rates of up to 14% over prime. Nothing will change because of this political ploy. The banks will profit more as they decrease their deposit interest rates (possibly to no interest as savings interest is already at .5%), but will not decrease loan rates unless they are forced to. And if they do so, they will increase fees and charges to offset any rate reduction; so, in effect, the public will be further raped financially, while the Government is boasting that the prime rate reduction will improve our international ratings.

Way to go Loretta. Now you can begin to see why the gender equality referendum was soundly defeated. This is the belief of many Bahamian men who conform to the marital vows of women being submissive to theirs husbands, end of story. You have picked a good representative to go against the things that you so strongly campaign for. Dog eat your lunch.
