Why is it arrogant when the people peacefully protest the mismanagement of the country by the PLP? Would Mr. Dorsett call the protest by the people in the Burma Road riots, and the throwing of the mace out of the house, arrogant? I don't think so. It is only OKAY when the PLP protest. What a crock of s--t.
Norman, your points are well taken; however do not lose sight of the fact that it was Sarkis who brought the Chinese into the picture, and into this project, as he could not obtain financing elsewhere. I too, do not support criminal elements coming into the country, and the sad fact is that it appears that there are no other buyers, in spite of what the government says. The owners will do what they have to do, or this building will stay as it is.
Maybe we will vote the PLP out, but it will be for a multitude of reasons. Sarkis was handed Cable Beach, which included the roads and a large portion on the land adjoining Skyline Drive, for peanuts. This debacle was approved first by Christie, and then fine tuned by Ingraham, and now is into round two with Christie. Sarkis is not, nor never was, a hotelier, and was given this gift by the governments during the recession. He did not even come up with the purchase price which, if my memory serves me correctly, was around 170 million, but obtained financing from Scotia Bank with the assistance of the government. After much finagling, he set up a deal with the State Bank of China, and the Chinese Construction Company to finance the whole project, and when time came to provide the land as security, he was unable to satisfy the Scotia Bank Advance. He was being coached by the master of flim flam and avoidance of paying Government bills, and was able to convince Scotia, with the help of the then PM to accept shares in his project as repayment for their loan. He got all of this property without putting up a penny. The State Bank of China are the legal owners of this property, as they advanced the funds to bring the development to the point where it is. If the Chinese or anyone else can come up with a proposal and the funds to purchase and complete this project, then Thank God. This Sarkis led fiasco has been an international disaster for our country for years, under the stewardship of this man Sarkis, and his protege, Sandy. Good riddance to him. Now if you want to vote the PLP out, as I do, do so on the basis of things that they did not do, and matters that are completely under their control.
Mr. D'Aguilar, only people like yourself who pay the VAT due to government, are subject to these Gestapo tactics. There are hundreds of cronies, and countless others who will never pay VAT or any taxes, NIB or utilities, and face no consequences. Maybe you and the FNM, if elected can do something to rectify this situation, but you will have to sweep clean all of the corrupt employees at VAT, NIB, and the Business License department Road Traffic,BPL and the Treasury. Good luck. This is why the entire governmental structure of the Bahamas is failing, cronies in all departments are not accountable for their actions, hence the millions of dollars that disappear annually.
Mouth can say anything, and you are good at it. I suggest you start off by enforcing a few laws that already are in existence on all MPs who do not comply. Paying of taxes, prosecution for non-payment of same as well as outstanding utility bills, enforcement of the public disclosure laws, and implementation of the Freedom of Information Act, are good starting points, then maybe we can believe some of this crap that you keep articulating.
The Sand Trap, as a business, closed down over ten years ago. The building that burned down on the property was once rented by, and operated as the Sand Trap, and perhaps the reference to this name is based upon history. The Sand Trap was a fun place and never home to the type of violence that goes on at the property today. I wonder if this "shack" even has a business license; proper BPL connections, toilet facilities, and health certificates. It seems that a used tire business, and a boat junkyard are also operated on the property, allegedly owned by Tennyson Wells. Perhaps authorities may wish to take a look at exactly what its going on at this property, located right on Bay Street, and immediately East of the American Embassy property. Otherwise just let the Embassy continue to issue warnings to its personnel to steer clear of it.
Why is it that whenever any protest or march, organized by anyone other than the PLP, brings cause for comment from Ministers of Government. It is the peoples right to peacefully demonstrate, and it is the Police Force's responsibility to ensure that order is maintained. Anyone remember Burma Road. How peaceful was that?
Frankie, ain't these your boys who are screwing you. But don't worry, you are more than earning it back with the land Arawak should not have gotten in the first place, and the sweet fuel contract you have with BEC that has kept us using antiquated power generation equipment for decades. You ain't hurting.
