Crime is hurting the Bahamas growth in tourism more than anything else. When a family hears of the crime even one time, they never forget it. Yes, Cuba is now out of the picture as a vacation spot for Americans. Believe me, they won't go. I have heard people say why not just go to Florida, it's safer for families. I know the last cruise ship came in on warned the passengers of the crime in Nassau, even on the port. They told the passengers to leave their valuables and their money on the ship. The passengers have already paid for their excursions, so they don't bring money off the ship with them. Therefore not having money for the shops. It's not good at all for the economy of the island. Some didn't even leave the ship. When we disembarked in Grand Bahama they didn't give any warnings.
The people committing these massacres seem to want to take out as many people as they can. It's random and everywhere, at schools, churches, malls, night clubs, concerts etc. It's too much and makes no sense. Maybe mental illness, drugs, alcohol or just plain meanness. I don't have a clue. It makes me sad, but I won't live in fear. That's not living and their not going to win. There are a lot of good people out there. I am so glad that I wasn't born any later in time. This generation hasn't enjoyed family life. Sitting on the porch with the family and neighbors, drinking ice tea, watching the kids play. Sunday afternoons with family having lunch and just spending time together. I wouldn't trade it for anything.
TalRussell why would you deflect from the progress being made in this case. There is probably more people to be arrested. He may not of acted alone. I think your just looking to discredit some people. That's the problem these days. Bahamians, all people need to unite for a better and safer life for all. If we all took care of our own and watched out for our neighbors when in need. We might not be looking for a killer. If your hungry knock on my door and I'll feed you. If you have no where to sleep, I'll make you a pallet. What happened to people. I'm feeling this so strongly today on the eve of the massacre in Las Vegas!
Living in fear everyday of some senseless act is unimaginable. Your babies being killed sitting in his house doing homework. They better catch these people and they do deserve the death penalty. If they ever see the light of day again is too good for them.
Debbie that's what I loved about the Bahamas. Thirtyfive years ago I started coming to the Bahamas with my mother and that's how people were. I loved the love from the people we met. I still treasure the Bahamas and it's people. This is what fills my memories of those days. I can't express enough my love for those people that made my life so full.
It is true in the States with or without insurance if it's life threatening you will be treated regardless. You do get longer care with insurance, but they stabilized you and send you home with medicine. There are also all kinds of that help in situations just like this. Try to get in touch with Samaritian's Purse, Red Cross, Any Large Church you can get help with this. Also do know about Saint Jude's in Memphis, Tennesee, they treat any child, for any illness free of charge. They also provide housing for the families and food. No One is Charged for Anything. Even if you brought him here, no questions would be asked. Good Luck for a Long Life! Lisa
It's a great thing to do, BUT I don't think they'll do a good job of it. Everything the government does ends up not being executed properly. I don't see them taking care of their own children. Look at the crime by children, and the innocent being killed. God Bless Eugene!
