I don't know how many times that I have pointed out that the Jews are God's chosen people and that Jesus was most likely a man of color. I don't know why so many people see him as white. Prejudice obviously! Although it is better than it ever has been in America. It's still here. Not with me and mine. Everyone is welcome at my house, and that's what you find.
I am looking for a old friend. I met him 30 years ago in Freeport. His name is John Braynen. He played with his own band called John Boy and The Mustangs. They made several albums. I'm not a groupie looking for a band member. I lost touch with a very dear friend and would really like to say Hi. I have been on the island numerous times now and with no luck of running into him. I realize that chance is unlikely. I heard thru a mutual friend he is now a security guard at the American Embassey. I'm hoping he'll read this. I don't want any info that is personal or private. I just want to reunite with a very dear friend. That I have never forgot. Thanks Lisa Harris
I American, but have been traveling to the Bahamas for over 30 years and I love it. I love the people and the culture. I would go so far to say I would trade places with you, but it isn't the same place anymore. My mom and I walked all over the island and hitched rides. We went to eight mile rock. We were welcome in peoples homes. Women fed us like we were family. I loved it. What happened! I'm not even sure it's safe to visit as a tourist. Believe me if tourist's are afraid to visit, they won't. Your not going to save your money for a vacation and visit somewhere your not sure your safe. The economy is not doing well in the islands, tourist could help that. And why can't police get a hold on the crime, the islands are not that big. Everyone knows everyone. It is really sad. I miss visiting and going where you guys go. When I travel I like to see the culture, eat the food of the island and get to know the people. I pray that it changes back to more of welcoming environment. We love you guys.
I lived in Fla as a child and even back then they drove thru the neighborhood's with big sprayer trucks, spraying for mosquitos. Being kids, we would run behind the trucks in the spray on purpose. No one ever told us to stop it, but it never hurt us. Or maybe it did. Lot's of people think I'm crazy. Even without Zika, Fla. has always sprayed.
Does the government of the Bahamas not have a plan. It looks something like a yearly budget, with estimated amount of money coming in and putting so much out for road repairs, so much for education, and etc. It might be slow but that's how you accomplish something. That's why the people pay taxes. In what ever form the money is collected it's taxes. You can criticize the payroll taxes of the US, but look around and see what it has brought to it's citizens lives. Everything cost money and somebody has to pay for it.
Your right, I was so surprised when I returned to Freeport after years away, there was nobody there. I talked to people that explained to me what all had happened to the economy in Grand Bahama. It's beautiful there! It was so quiet thou, most people probably wouldn't go back. Once someone decides that it was ok, but I think I could have more fun somewhere else you won't get them back or their friends. Word of mouth is the best or worse advertisement. Thirty years ago we had a blast in Grand Bahamas! Left my heart there! After the hurricane the investors took the money they received and left. I couldn't believe even the World Bizarre hadn't been rebuilt. Everything was just gone, even the residents. They moved just to be able to eat. So Sad!
OMG and you wonder why the Bahamas are in the state their in. If your not willing to invest in your children, what do you expect. Children are a product of their environment. It starts at home with a loving stable home, 3 meals a day. Love and nurturing produces a healthy adult. School is a extension that we allow to educate our children. Sounds like they are dropping the ball. Parents go in your children's schools, clean it up, make it safe and comfortable. If staff is short, volunteer. Most adults can take the material being taught to each grade and help the children learn. One teacher can't do it alone. Gosh, reading this really upset me. I read everyday WHY. Well here you are! If the quality of education improves, I guarantee you they won't be on the streets doing drugs and killing people. They'll use their heads to bring all kind of exciting changes. If it doesn't change, things won't improve.
