Unfortunately, the real problems will arise when the general public runs out of patience with the serious social restrictions being imposed upon them. When they are free to freely roam once again they will confront a changed reality in which an unemployment rate of 60 percent or higher will become the norm for an extended period. This is the unpleasant reality that is, more than likely, causing the greatest concern for our leaders.

Jim, thanks for the information about Cat Cay and the expected chaos on Bimini. I was hoping that someone would be able to supply some real and reliable details. Replying to TalRussell; this business of private planes landing in Treasure Cay and Marsh Harbour is, apparently, an ongoing exercise as can be seen on FlightRadar24 on line. When we mere locals will be able to return to Marsh Harbour to check our property is the unanswered question.

Just a few questions related to this situation: What is the situation on Cat Cay not far south of Bimini? Are there people on Bimini who work on Cat Cay? Are the rich and famous who own and patronize Cat Cat allowed to enter and depart the island by sea and by air as freely as in the past? These are just a few simple questions and inquiring minds want to know.

So much simpler and honest to state that homes that are badly damaged and basically uninhabitable cannot and will not be reconnected. If you have seen the damage you will recognise that many buildings are too far gone to even be considered for reconnection. BPL has been agonisingly slow in their work in central Abaco, that much is obvious, but the unpleasant truth is that Marsh Harbour has suffered a terrible blow from which there is no quick recovery possible. Perhaps BPL management believes that too much honesty will only add to the sense of despair.

Please recall that BPL is proving to be incapable of providing power to most of the residential areas of Marsh Harbour, using the excuse of a lack of manpower and restrictions on movement between the islands. Many people believe the early report that Florida Power and Light offered to send repair crews but were discouraged when told that they required work permits. Now that the entire country is being wrecked there can be little doubt that hurricane repairs will not be a priority (if they ever were). At least Marsh Harbour has an airport which is more that can be said of Freeport.

The suggestions for management of potential exposure can be extended to other situations and businesses. If the economy is not freed up soon the unemployment rate and level of desperation will go through the roof with unpleasant results. At what point do you let the people go?

Unfortunately, since such a large slice of government revenue has evaporated and with what remains of the local economy limping along, increased taxes and a reduction in government spending is inevitable. There is no easy and palatable solution to the predicament in which we find ourselves.

My dear TalRussell, I never stated that polio has disappeared from the world. For that mater neither has leprosy or the bubonic plague for that matter.

Let everyone wear a mask (for what it's worth), wash hands frequently, maintain a "safe" distance as far as is humanly possible, get outside and back to work if the job still exists. The longer this lockdown foolishness continues the worse the outcome for the national economy which is well on its way to its final agony. These are serious times we are experiencing and there is little room for experiment and waiting to see what foreign leaders are doing.

In all my years I cannot recall witnessing or reading about such a level of mass hysteria (at least in relatively modern times) in relation to any medical/health problem. Watching documentaries about past pandemics can be informative but this level of mass insanity and economic suicide is beyond human comprehension. In my youth (about 1957-1958) I vaguely recall schools and movie theatres being closed as a result of what was called a polio "outbreak" in Nassau. We children were taken to Saint Matthew's Schoolroom for our dose of the pink vaccine on a sugar cube. This present situation almost smacks of mk ultra mind control experiments. Let us hope that increasing international tensions do not result in military adventurism arising from a sense of desperation.
