Since BTC can get out, they should allow their customers to report themselves "safe" via the National Institutes of Health People Finder setup for Joaquin victims in the Bahamas. This way their family can check on them via Internet.
HAM radios are used for emergency communications in the US when power and phone are not available. A HAM radio can be purchased for a few dollars and operated on any 12volt power source like a car battery.
