Anyone check Bahamas Press in the last little while? There is a picture of the dead guy right on the main page! At least the Tribune has the decency not to publish these gruesome pictures which are no doubt all over social media anyway the instant it happened.

“Industry giants are continually impressed and intrigued when we introduce them to the ‘Freeport Model’ and the dynamics and benefits of the Port Area.

A model and dynamic benefits that will no longer exist come January 1, 2015 and further August 1, 2015 unless Freeport businesses stand up fight for what is rightfully and lawfully ours.

More good news! ALL civil servents double-dipping. And they wonder why the country is in debt. Worse yet, the government expects honest hard-working private businesses to pay more so they can continue to overpay! Doesn't anyone running this country see anything wrong with all this?

It is currently at $600 wage ceiling and going up to $700 in January 2014. Yet more taxation. Is anyone even aware of this increase?

hooray! Just what this Country needs. Another day of non-productivity! Another day business has to pay our staff to do nothing and hence less money going into the Government coffers. Well done PM! You really know what this country needs most!

Did Mr. Fair live in a bubble in Freeport these last 18 months? Can he honestly say that "Freeport has been an economic success story"? Freeport is very, very bad off and the Port Authority is doing absolutely nothing to help it or its PAYING licensees. We are being ignored completely with our cries over the 2013 Customs Regulations, upcoming VAT taxes and the expiry of the real property taxes and business licenses. All we see is a press release saying "they are working with Government" etc. etc. When will anything actually happen? Daily we are hearing of foreign businesses that are changing their expansion plans due to the unfavorable economic environment being rammed down Freeport's throat by Government. Let's not talk about the bahamian businesses (cause we are too small to matter) who have plans for expansion and have put them on hold or cancelled them altogether. So please Mr. Fair don't tell Freeport we are an economic success because even you must know that is certainly not true!

VAT tax is charged at point of entry on all imports exactly that same as import duties. Importers will now have to come up with duty and VAT taxes when their goods arrive in the Bahamas. Government needs to come clean on exactly what tariffs will be reduced and by how much so that businesses can plan ahead for these major draws in their cash flows.
