BoB is essentially bankrupt. Laws are being broken to keep it open. In any other jurisdiction, it would have been wound up years ago. How can the Bahamas maintain any semblance of banking trust when political cronies have bled a bank dry, and the Central Bank looks the other way when it comes to legal capital requirements, and on top of that, BISX won't let the shareholders get out? This is not a level playing field. Of course Sarkis Izmirlian learned that.

People should be going to jail to preserve the integrity of the financial structure of the Bahamas. This is an outrage.

This situation shows the world that the regulators are crooked, and can be bought and that we truly are a banana republic.

Interestingly enough, there has been a shift in China. They have started paying their bills and spending money abroad. Their foreign reserves spending the in last few months is already 4 times what they have spent in 2015. Economic analysts surmise that they are trying to solve their domestic economic problems by investing in foreign companies. The Chinese want to diversify their economy from manufacturing cheap Walmart goods to high tech manufacturing to keep their economy healthy. http://www.reuters.tv/v/Dhu/2016/08/29/…

The economic diversification was the same strategy and vision that Hubiggity had when he proposed the Third Pillar back in 2002 and the criminal PLP and sheeple populace fought it tooth and nail, and now the crumb-catchers are applying for their own job back at Sandals. Hubigetty had plans to totally wire the island, make it a hosting center for eCommerce and the internet and grow the knowledge sector of the economy.

Now we are begging the Chinese to pay their bills, and hope and pray that they dole out some money, and finish Baha Mar so that it can sold. Knowing how they built the original, no one will want to buy it, especially with all of the rice poop on the carpets of the unfinished rooms.

At least there may be a chance for some Bahamians to get some money, but wait and see. The Bahamian overseers, Winder/Lightbourne et al will take their cut as an "administration" fee.

What you say is true. In addition to that, the banking infrastructure is very much outdated, and the old tax haven paradigm of hiding money from the domestic tax man is totally dead.

Ironically, there are real opportunities in commercial and investment banking, but we do not have the skills, the infrastructure, the vision and the access to capital to pursue those opportunities. That ship has sailed long ago.

This was because the PLP thrives on crumb-catching -- fleecing other people with money, instead of empowering Bahamians.

Hmmmm. Two accounts -- one person? Enmity like this means something personal, otherwise it would be just a ho-hum. How did he screw you over?

What you don't realise is that Neil Hartnell writes business reports by phoning up a group of people who take his calls, and that's the NEWS of the day.

This is all rather hilarious, because one thing that you can count on from Dionisio. is the straight goods. He calls a spade a spade even when it is politically inadvisable to do so. Of course it helps to have the armour of wealth and have a business that Bahamians rely on.

You een hurtin' his feelings by calling him names.

Two things birdie. First, the secrecy behind the deal is very interesting because (1) there is no buyer to monitor the finishing of the construction and they have proven that they are shoddy workers who cannot complete anything on time, and (2) we know that PM Crisco Butt is a serial liar and a narcissist. He has mislead the Bahamian public continuously especially during this tenure. Remember the "dead good news" a year ago?

Secondly, if have had the privilege of touring the warehouse of Mr. D'Aguilar, the first thing that greets you in the ground floor, is a plethora of destroyed token activators by employees who try to illegally extract tokens and either sell them or give them to their friends. In the process, they wreck them. This destruction happens with the complicity of "Bahamian supervisors". This damage happens in spite of Mr. D'Aguilar being an exemplary employer, giving his employees loans and helping them out in their time of need. I know this for a fact. So when you spew your little hateful birdsh*t on these fora and take your own brain out of park, please take an anti-stupid laxative before you touch the keyboard. Here's hoping that Jesus can cure your imbecilic rants. God Bless You.

@Economist -- you have just lost all of your credibility. This doesn't call for ad hominem when a bad situation is being exposed. Divide and conquer is a PLP strategy.

Rick Lowe is proven to be a Bahamian patriot.
