Let's deconstruct this with logic and bit of knowledge and take away the toadying partisan bunk.

First of all, what they don't tell you, is that the economy can grow due to inflation. Suppose your economy is 10 billion and inflation is 10 percent. The economy is the sum total of wages, goods and services so if inflation is 10 percent, the economy or GDP will grow to 11 billion, or ten percent. And the Central Bank will be shouting hosannas that the economy grew.

The only real growth happens from first principle economic drivers such as increased business, increased real estate sales, a new manufacturing plant, or new resource discovery, or a new technology company takes off with meteoric sales. That is real economic growth.

In this case, the Central Bank says that growth will happen due to the government cracking down on collections and stop spending. It doesn't take an idiot to see that this is not economic growth! But you, the unwashed reader, are to assume that all growth is a good thing. Even my good friend, the old Mr. Ferguson in Exuma, who says that he don't know much, but he knows for a certainty that the 'conomy is sick.

Then they start with the depth charges of bad news. Liquidity in the banking system is elevated, reflecting sustained weakness in the private credit sectors and banks. This means that the banks are full of money because no one qualifies for a loan. Money is not made to sit in banks. In a flourishing economy, it is out there, being lent and spent and making the wheels of commerce go around. Here it is a moribund drag.

The Bahamas is a developing country and doesn't know what it doesn't know, including the author -- who should know if she had done a single iota of research instead of making things up in a high-sounding fashion. The reason why there are so many uninformed people is due to two things -- a low degree of literacy, which hampers the understanding of complex political issues. But the major impediment is nowhere mentioned by the author, and totally missed.

That is the first step for improvement in literacy, improvement in Freedom of Information, access and democracy.

The Right Honourable Hubert Alexander Ingraham had a plan to breach the digital divide with his Third Pillar plan, but the bescumbered, fimicolous, microphallus kleptocrats in the PLP convinced an illiterate sheeple electorate to vote it down, along with the equality of women.

Several countries in the world have made concerted efforts to bridge the digital divide and that is why they are first world countries. It is the first step to having an enlightened populace.

If tourists were forced to go to restaurants instead of buying an all-inclusive package, tourism would fall off so dramatically that stop-over visitors would be limited to the luxury class and there would be further job reductions. Bahamian vacations would simply be too expensive and too much money for too little value.

As it is, because of unionisation, the labour costs are very much higher than other destinations. This wouldn't be an issue if the productivity were commensurate with the higher wages, but it is not. And as mentioned above, labour issues, disruptions and actions in the face of low worker productivity is a serious impediment to profits -- and that is the sole reason that resorts are in business -- to create profits. They don't care about creating jobs if those jobs don't bring a profit with them.

When guys like Obie says phrases like *"treasonous to the Bahamian People"* , it is gravy-sucking pigs like him who is treasonous to Bahamians. He makes a very much better living off the backs of working Bahamians than the union members, and he and others like him are in a large part, responsible for the decline of tourism.
