We live in the end times ... not so much as the "Look busy, Jesus is coming", rapture end times, but rather in the end times of the Bahamas as a decent country. Corruption galore, Flowers now not a criminal, Attorney General squashes Auditor General's finding of corruption, murders almost every day, anchor project stalled, PLP lies without problem, anybody will say anything, all public figures have lost their moral and ethical compass, hypocrisy reigns supreme ... it's all gotta end in a bad way. We are on the way to becoming Haiti version 2.0 -- the English speaking one.
There are a few Jamaican hookers that used to ply their business over the Daily Grind (I thought that the name for a coffee shop was hilarious, since the upper floors were hooker squatters). But I digress, I heard some interesting stories about the sexual peccadilloes of a certain booger-infested DPM, as well as an ex-Central Bank governor.
I certainly hope that the day comes when people with a sordid past cannot run for public office. We haven't reached that stage yet. All of our politicians are rejects that even the sewerage plant wouldn't process. Yet with boughten votes, they call themselves honourable.
Business is the last venue of warfare for the civilised man. And this was business pure and simple. The brains of the outfit is old man Izmirlian. What's that old saying? "In business the first generation makes it, the second generation spends it, and the third generation disposes of what's left". The Izmirlians made their money in West African peanuts. What do they know about construction, tourism, and hotels? The Chinese saw them coming, and took them to the cleaners. I would have done the same thing, and so would have you. That is why it is so embarrassing to have Christie, Fred Mitchell, and Brave Davis as our front men on the international stage. They are Dumb, Dumber and Dumbest and real business men can smell corrupt rubes a mile away.
It's good to see my good friend Neil Hartnell expand his sources and use Fred Mitchell's Bahamas Uncircumcised column. His usual fare for business newsmaking is a phone call for a quote to Dionisio D'Aguilar, Rick Lowe, Jonathan Rodgers or Gowon Bowe.
What you say is true as well. At the moment it is not devalued intentionally, because the Chinese economy has tanked, and they are struggling to maintain its value against a basket of currencies, loosely pegged to the American dollar. However it has even fallen against the American dollar.
Some economic pundits are saying that China is now doing the opposite -- artificially boosting their currency as a prop against the optics of having to admit the huge slowdown in their economy.
Whatever the true situation is, the stark truth is that the Chinese are manipulating it one way or the other, and we would become unwitting partners in their machinations.
Economist makes a good point as to how everything that China touches in the West turns to crap. The CEO of Walmart made a commitment to buy and sell less Chinese junk, and their glory days are over.
In their boom years, they accumulated over $4 trillion dollars in foreign currency, and now their Central Bank is spending some of that to prop up their currency (The Economist Magazine -- February 2015).
Whatever the real picture, the Chinese are hanky panky players and Pinder wants us to jump into bed with them, almost like Moron Miller wanted us to sell our energy sovereignty to that Venezuelan nutbar, Hugo Chavez with the Petro Caribe deal. Our government is dangerous, because they are naive amateurs and rubes.

This is unbelievable. Hilarious. Laughable.
Munroe is the reason why Bahamian lawyers are not respected or trusted.
Go ahead and sue. It will give the banks another reason to close up shop here.
And in the meantime, Bank of Bahamas will fail.
The previous commenter was right. This is pure comedy.
