Before I left the banking/wealth management scene in the Bahamas, I presiding over the large capital outflow of foreign wealth in our history. I personally had to transfer accounts of two billionaires, who packed up their bags and left. They sold their real estate holdings, closed their brokerage and bank accounts and left. And this was before COVID. Having a Bahamian bank account is worse than having a Panama bank account in the eyes of tax jurisdictions around the world.
Having a Bahamian Tax Certificate will do more harm than good to those holders of them. A previous commenter was right. A good majority of those permanent residents bank and have their wealth management elsewhere -- notably the Cayman, or increasingly, the Netherlands Antilles. The government of the Bahamas and the Bahamian economy is seen as a too-large risk in many ways to keep your wealth here. It is why our financial services industry is slip-sliding away. It is no longer profitable for foreign (Swiss and otherwise) firms to do business here.

LOL. The more that is spent on legal marijuana, the less ends up in the collection plate at church. Maybe it's the marijuana that adds clarity to not giving money to those psalm-singing donkey charlatans -- men in dresses. Did Jesus ever take up a collection? Nope. He fed 5000 people loaves and fishes, from his own pocket -- er bag of magic tricks.

The minister of state for Grand Bahama is incompetent and doesn't know what he is doing.

I look forward to the day when religion gets consigned to the trash bin and we become more enlightened as a people. If you believe in a talking snake making a woman eat and apple and hence we all need salvation, there is something wrong with your brain.

Please educate yourself and get some science. There are no such things as scans that "show oil". Oil is found by identifying geological structures that "may" contain oil. There is no way of imaging the oil itself.
Please don't show your ignorance while posting. Also please read up on penny stock plays. It is no wonder that the Bahamas is still a 3rd world country.

There ain't no oil. BPL is a penny stock play -- a junior resource make-believe playing at being an oil company to flog useless stock on junior exchanges. This was big in Canada 50 years ago with junior mining companies. They have to pretend to do some exploration, but they have no intention of really drilling a well or even finding oil. They know that there is no oil, but junior penny stock speculators hope that there is enough gullible people to waste their money. The drive the stock up with these announcements and do have have any intention of following through. Google it. This company has promised drilling since 2012. How have they kept going for 8 years and doing nothing. They had made millions off the stock. Oh you naive Bahamians.

There ain't no oil. It was a penny stock play that made them rich.
