I have read the "good doctor's" book on the economy that went to a vanity publisher a few years back. Someone in the office had a copy. It is unreadable drivel - except for maybe dollarization of the economy. This is a man who has failed at every single business that he has ever tried (pizza franchise, real estate, debit card, gambling platform, online newspaper, etc etc) except for perhaps eye-doctoring. He was Bran's DNA financial wizard that didn't pan out in one election and he was replaced by a guy named Youri in the last election.
There is some stuff that does make sense in the motherhood statements, but the "good doctor" hasn't had an original thought in his head. BREA is already calling for payment in bitcoin. The Central Bank is creating a digital currency. The BFSB is looking at Crypto. There are already ICOs being planned in the Bahamas. A day late and a dollar short.
However, I really like the prognosis of Dr. Barry Rassin. At his inaugural speech as president of Rotary International, he outlined how 90% of the Bahamas will be underwater in 50 years due to climate change. Just wait awhile and all problems solved. We are here for a good time, not a long time.
A friend and his wife rented my condo in PI in December. The wife was carrying a wallet and not a purse. She was mugged at the Island Traders building at the end of the PI bridge. A punk brazenly grabbed her hand holding wallet, all the while looking her in the eye. This is at the end of the PI bridge. These poorly socialised punks make the Bahamas unsafe for tourists.
As I write this, there is the article plus two comments. I haven't seen an intrinsic understanding of cryptocurrencies in anything written on this page so far.
Cryptocurrencies could get the Bahamas out of an economic hole, but instead, because the full ramifications of tokenization are not understood, ignorance and backwardness will prevail.
Cryptocurrencies are a very small part the picture. Bitcoin is an even smaller part of the picture. Perhaps the proper term should be crypto-tokens. These things have the ability to economically transform the Bahamas. But as long as we have the promulgation of ignorance, and painting everything with one broad brush, we will remain economically backwards.
What most don't realise, is that if we start leading the way, and inventing the future with crypto-tokens AND cryptocurrency, we have a way of revitalising our Financial Services Industry. From what I see here, nobody has an appreciation of this "wave" and once again we will be stuck in the doldrums of a Third World country.
In investment jargon, a "sophisticated investor" has a special meaning including legal. It is always used in conjunction with an offering of speculative shares where the investor has a good chance of losing their money. The definition of a sophisticated investor is one who has a net worth of at least $2.5 million dollars or who has earned in excess of $250,000 for the past two years. https://www.investopedia.com/terms/s/so…
Comrades, the future is here quicker than you think. The Bahamas will have its first cryptocurrency in the March timeframe. And there are at least two more on the way after that. That is great news comrades to stick it to the capitalist pigs and their counter-revolutionary money controls.
At the Grand Bahama tech summit held in November, there was a very interesting talk about another Revolutionary cryptocurrency as well, called Conch Coin. If it is implemented, it will be the most prominent cryptocurrency in the Bahamas and the most useful one for the bourgeoisie comrades in all of the islands.
Here is the Conch Coin proposal: https://www.gbtalks.com/2017/12/03/kimb… Around the 9 minute mark, you will hear about Conch Coin and its benefits to the proletariat.
