Maybe we should give them another island as punishment.

The WTO is a trade agreement that cannot be left or easily alterred after signing on and has no end date to the treaty. Has there been a referendum on joining? No! Has either party in the last 20 years run a campaign or seriously promoted joing as a major part of their campaign? No! Good, bad, right or wrong. It is undemocratic for a elected 4-5 year government to enter our country into a agreement that a new government cannot easily get us out of or alter without meeting any of the previously mentioned conditions.

Yes the same problem and even though I was for the legalization of the number shops the referendum vote was against it. The government at the time went against the vote. Our democracy is not functioning. Even though the vote was against what I wanted, I accepted it. This is paramount to the trust between elected governments and the people. This breakdown in democracy is an even greater issue than than the WTO or the numbers houses. The people are being sidelined

How can any 4-5 year government enter us into a agreement/treaty that cannot be easily undone by the election of another government without it being a major plank in their election manifesto or a referendum put to the population? Neither has been done by either party. This whole process is on the border of being undemocratic and against democracy. I doubt in a referendum regarding joining the WTO that support for it would get more than 10% support. The Bahamas does not want this.

So Tyson imported from the USA has safeguards to protect it's products traversing the mailboat network of the out islands? Why would Abaco chicken have any harder time than imported products traversing these shipping links?

No more exports! Wanna eat conch come to the Bahamas period the end. When you have something that no one else has use it to your advantage.

If you could see images of the size of the boat versus the size of the dock you would understand. It's like trying to land a jumbo jet at an airport made for single engine planes. It's a small community dock in the center of the harbour not the main dock where the large freight and mail boats etc come in. Just because you can do something does not mean you should and nor does it make it right.

Time to lay off as many minimal wage employees and replace them with machines. An employer having to pay a further 70-80 dollars a month per employee is no small amount of money basically 35% raise to a minimal wage person. This will only cause more lower paid people to lose their jobs as business cannot endlessly borrow and spend like the government. And for what? So we can all go down to sit up in PMH with no doctors, medicine, machines, and nurses and wave around our $1000 dollar plastic NHI card? I am sleeping better at night already.
