Castaway Cay on the southern end of Abaco in the Bahamas hardly employs any locals and is kept private and exclusive with little to no impact on the local economy at all. Disney also had another private resort on Abaco dredging a channel so big near a reef that the fill created an artificial island. They had dolphins penned up at this location for amusement and after a few years just abandoned the site leaving the buildings to go to destruction and the local area with all the environmental damage they created. This is bad news for Southern Eleuthera. This talk of jobs etc. is all for show. They will find way around hiring any locals and preventing anyone from accessing the area. These developers always find ways around things even after promising green ways and beach access and everything to deny access. One of the Bahamas most beautiful sights and we are going to turn it into a cruise terminal? The lowest bang for you buck type of tourist? What are these people smoking? Oh wait Jamaica is exporting marijuana now. We missed that boat too. *bangs head on desk*

Yep I noticed that too and I can bet you they will be severely discouraged and/or prevented from walking along the beach to the point. Time and time again I have seen developments build with the promise of public access points only to create barriers and hindrances to discourage their use. The economic benefits from the private cruise islands etc. are minimal. If it must be developed try and find a land based developer would give more bang for developing such a beautiful place.

Cant get a letter delivered on time. Perfected over 400 years ago but, we going to get digital currency and IDs right. Jokes and more jokes. More hair brain ideas building bridges to nowhere. VAT 20% here we come.

Sounds like it will be an amazing deal for everyone except the general public.

More government spending/programs after VAT increase. VAT 20% here we come. Government cannot help themselves.

Fast food if it can be considered food is poison. Free choice yes but, people also depend on the government to defend them from snake oil salesmen. If we are going to move towards a national free health care system whether you agree with it or not people must pay for their poor choices.

WTO will not end well for the majority of Bahamians. Our economy will be opened up to large corporations. Even our largest companies are babies. So Bahamians will be forced to compete on the world stage while being restricted to our sandbox by the government. Who restrict our ability to get access to outside capital, invest in foreign companies and stock exchanges, and own assets outside of the Bahamas. So if we want to join the big global WTO stuff do not restrict Bahamians to only the Bahamas economy while letting everyone else in.

So if l rent an apartment and l am responsible for my own electricity, am l now responsible to pay my landlords property tax or have my electricity cut off?

bcitizen says...

While the backlog of real property tax needs to be collected. I hear far more about government increasing revenue then l hear about growing the economy, cutting waste, expenditure, and our bloated civil service hog. They only thing they have mentioned is the self contribution to retiremet for new hires. So we'll see this cost saving in what 40 years?
