Exxon Valdez Mauritius Deepwater Horizon Ocean Ranger Piper Alpha .....and the list goes on. This one is kind of on point for the Bahamas..June 1979 Mexico's government-owned oil company, Pemex, used a semi-submersible drilling rig to create Ixtoc I, an exploratory oil well 62 miles off the coast of Campeche, Mexico. On June 3, the well experienced a blowout, initially leaking 30,000 barrels of oil into the gulf each day.
Took me less than 5 minutes to find these.
Just Google "oil spill Trinidad" and an impressive list of nasty shows up.
Just enforce the PROPER wearing of masks, enforce public social distancing, no large gatherings! Lack of enforcement by authorities, of those 3 simple things are what has allowed the spike of cases on the island since the last lockdowns!!!!
By mail??? Bwahahahaha! I just received my November2019 and December 2019 bank statements this past Tuesday! Nothing can be reliably done by mail, especially in the Family Islands. Anybody who thinks this withdrawl of brick-and-morter bank branches, especially from the Family Islands, is a non-issue let alone a positive thing is completely lacking in critical thinking skills and lacks the ability to foresee the consequences.
Not to mention the fact that the Real Property Tax website still isn't working correctly and the department hasn't uploaded this years new tax bills. Kind of difficult to pay your taxes when yyou don't have a bill and the site is broken. SMH!
Considering how badly their service quality has dropped in the past year I find this surprising. Here in Eleuthera the service is no better than BTC, especially their WiFi...which has slowed to snail-like speeds.
The Disney plan will do virtually nothing for Eleuthera or its economy. A few well placed locals will make some money during the construction phase and upon completion of the construction a few more will get low-paying toilet-cleaning and beach-raking jobs without benefits. Meanwhile a natural spot of extreme beauty will be destroyed and turned into a carnival ground that will never be able to be repaired or made whole again. Anybody who thinks otherwise has no clue how the cruise-lines operate, has not bothered to look at Princess Cay just down the road or the other private cruise islands in the country and just have their heads buried in the sand.
Except the beach and the ameneties won’t won’t be available to all Bahamians. As for a certain number of well paying jobs guaranteed to Eleutherans, year round??? Disney will promise that until a year after the facility is opened....then a few menial jobs is it.
