In any sporting body you find where there is reasonable suspicion (not guilty/not innocent) people are suspended until the outcome of the case is shown to be either guilty or not guilty. If say for example an athlete turns up a positive result for drugs in their A sample, they are sidelined until their B sample is tested, and an inquiry is done. This is done to protect the integrity of the country and its sporting association. This boy at this point in time is not guilty, and neither is he totally innocent. Until he is proven innocent, he needs to be sidelined as pointed out before to protect the BAAA's from scandal, and tarnishing its image as a clean and fair sporting body.
If he was innocent, why run from the police when he was about to be frisked? Innocent people don't run because they have nothing to fear. He knows why he did what he did. If he's man, he should be man enough to face up to any consequences of his actions instead of the little boy mantra of "deny everything" despite what the evidence and what the witnesses might say.
His hearing isn't until April. So he should be allowed to compete because he hasn't been convicted? Tell that to FSU who has suspended him indefinitely over the incident. If we treated everyone with your way of thinking, then no one would ever be suspended, or placed on leave without pay pending investigation. The point is, he should sit and cool his heels in suspension until the matter is sorted out. His actions at the scene aroused suspicion and were highly inappropriate hence his being charged with two misdemeanors. It would look much worse on the BAAA'S if he was allowed to run at carifta and then he's found guilty later on, wouldn't it?
Agree Tal Russell! The boy has two charges against him. It is more on a matter of principle and integrity (of which young master Newbold or the venerable Mr. Bannister has yet to learn) the BAAA's needs to rescind his invitation as part of the team. If not it may very well end up looking like it's more about greed and desperation in wanting to win than keeping the integrity of the BAAA's intact.
He is trying to be a thug. He has consistently lied about the gun, the shooting, the id, and on top of all of that, the most he offered up were two imbecilic unrepentant tweets and and not a single apology to his family and friends, his school or his country to be found. He needs to grow up and realize that he's messing with the wrong set of people who can and will end his wannabe thug life early. Someone needs to sit his backside down, and tell him he is making a jackass of himself and embarrassing his country with his behaviour.
It is only appropriate that the BAAA's rescind the offer for him to be a part of the team. It is a matter of integrity and principle over a greedy desire to win at all costs.
