In all fairness former Prime Minister Perry Christie is one of the best orators and spokesman for the PLP and the Bahamas. He is a formidable speaker and has the poise mannerisms learned over hos 40 some years in politics.
They need to first start wid da standard Frederick Taylor ting...time and motion study.....bey dat sure gan put all den breakfast, an lunch vendors outta work....epiphamy....phones will be answered...and callers will not get to know every deptartment and who is responsible.....muddoes dred...no more church crusade in govt office.....bey da union gan be calling strike...
@Sheepr...While they certainly cannot grow because the govt keeps injecting funds, allowed funds from then unapproved web shops gambling, blocked bob bank from suing Regulator, with PUBLIC taxpayers money stopping market forces free enterprise, and competition from happening..propping up BOB.....the other banks are deeply embedded loans.securities loans need investigations in terms of debt service ratios followed etc massive mortgages failure loan policies being massively changed..intertwined with each other for any bank to leave........what they seem to be doing is mimimising risk by shedding as much and passing as much to others....ie New York stack exchange and let SEC have conversation with local regulator.... The EU blacklistingg ddid not come from a number of countries....it would have been certainly started by banks complaining of unfair competition to their govts who then acted....
@observerer2....you mention that the government, regulator and consmmer protection agencies are doing nothing to protect its citizens against the predatory practices of the..... banks.....cartel....
Well the government, regulator and consumer protection ard all one and the same. The govt chooses the Governor of the Central Bank along with its board of directors , and the govt created the consumer protection agencies whose salaries they pay......added to this is the govt majority owned bank of the Bahamas who was allowed to operate and take in then unapprovedweb shops business and operate without full capital ratios in violaton of bank regulations.....added to this its shares ard traded on BISX buying and selling shares agency which is 40% owned by the govt vis Central bank on which all competing banks also trade shares....added to this the minority BoB private sector shareholders complained for many years of not having its interests represented on the board....added is the Resolve loans mattr not worth value of assets govt created....added to this was a report of the Central bank carrying too many govt securities on short term liabilities.......added to this mix is RBC has been the govt bank with overdraft facilities loams etc to pay the govt monthly salary bill..?....added to this is that banks all carry millions in govt treasury securities .....Soooooooo... who do you want to stand up for the consumers..protect customers.......people...???? ....at least up to now....
Hate to say it but crime, despite taking a 5 to 10 % chunk out of GDP actually provides possibly the most jobs for Bahamians. Example .....job to bring in illegal (weapon), Job to sell weapon, .........ambulance driver employed, police car mechanic, police at scene, reporters, ambulance mechanic, ambulance personnel, PMH doctors, facilities, mortician, lawyer, church pastor to say conforting words, tailor, florist, limos drivers......etcetc....human rights activists protesting death pemalty..hate to say it but crime employs a lot of people....
49 years seem a lot ......but wouldn't he get time off for good behaviour etc.???......which might mean actual years he would serve in jail could be just a fraction of 49 years???
hundreds of victims....murdered..lives gone.....wives left without husbands...children without fathers...families without loved ones...hundreds....are left suffering..economically.....bills for funreal expenses.........many absorbing medical services facilities in always limited quanties for regular demographs...if they are severely wounded..at public taxpayers expense unnaturally unplanned...... and ......accused murderers..and it seems unlikely many will ever be brought to justice given the volumes pending, appealed.....and the accused alive nmurderers sit in jail victims families taxes paying for jail having meals health care....restaurant meals brought in??....and just recently seen from raid .....enjoying cell phone...tablets...service!!! ....The law of hanging needs to be applied...as thousands and thousamds and thousands of victims families suffer ....
The Commonwealth of the Bahamas is not just Nassau..where steam ships used to visit twice a month bringing .foreign persons to visit and climate good for health reasons ....it is a part of the global community......joining it in myriad of ways....it has to be there to take, confirm, negotiate challenge for its share of business, interests etc... as a world player and holding leadership positions as many Bahamians do in many roles in international organizations. What is desperately needed is a contract for jet services, or partial ownership of long range jet, or lease which can be used for Bahamas air also.....we need to stop sitting amd waiting for foreign investments and go out and get it ... We could start with a Piaggio avanti..or gulfstream.....or cessna c..fastest..or brazilian embraer phenom.good operating specs..or even the 4million honda jet...times have changed and we need to have our flag painted on a plane showing our presence.....
But corruption, unfairness runs rampant and continues to exist because many bemoan the fact that past govts just seem to change sides of the Parliamentary table.
Much is made of the small time criminal but many white collar criminals nothing happems or no jail time as in a current alledge case where alleged huge theft but allegedly no jail time is recommended.
Many protect each other openly or secretly because of support groups ie belong from the same island, same settlement, family ties, common name, half 'outside' siblings, associations, same religeous groups same political parties, work, friends, families, lovers, cronies,.. etcetc.......and when added together seems inpenetrable as plywood and the poor, unprotected, minority, tired, ill, suffer most who do not access or have these connections, ties that bind. The rich get richer and the poor simply gets taxed more.
Minister Bodie just on the news talking about slsckness and people off from work for it seems months.....and his intention to do someting bout it.....good going Minister Bodie!!......dats accountability fer governance doing da rite ting for the Bahamian people, sovereign nation.
