In previous article 27/7 informing one in needs food assistance and some 23,500 households and some 96,000 persons needing food assistance, now, current article 8/10 wiith National Food Distribution Task Force having figures of assistance of serving "55,000 homes containing an average of four persons per household."
In just over 2 months figures have sky rocketed from some 23,500 households to 55,000 households and from some 23,500 persons to some 220,000 ? persons.alarming !!!!!
@ tribanon, so many goings on. Within country, incoming govt started so many viable and otherwise investigations....laying off thousands of workers hired by previous govt, from the govt ....hurricane tzar program, workers baic, Gaming Board, viability of airlifr operators Freeport, Defence Force, Road Traffic shortfalls, Post Office bank not knowing how much money, Oban signature, etcetc...but there is the extraordinarily odd silence on the govt bank and now the Central Bank with this profound directive.
Very good view tribanon. Opening situation on others involved are good. Also, the BoB first senior manager or Board member who is ...amongg a dozen? or so Board Directors of the bank, does mention "admit that risk management practices may have at fault ...." The Bank Manager views are very revealing especially at this time when the Central Bank after years make this action. So tribanon your point then opens up on the bank risk management in stewartship of the Taxpayers funds. It would be publictly exposed on these goings on with nation's assets peoples taxes and risk policies used.
The Central Bank of the Bahamas as the Regulator of the banks to have invoked such phenomenal directives at this point is usually at last resort. This bank have for years been facing situations and involving some $300 Million of the taxpayers money and with dire consequences and involving other taxpayers agencies like the NIB. Buying the $40million Rights offering worth of shares amid lack of interest by others should have telling. A formerGovenor of the Central Bank had warnings of the Resolve situation.
Accountability from the Board of the Directors governing bank and appointed by the political parties of the Taxpayers money needed for all of those years leading in this direction to the seems dire amputation of the essential arm of any bank. Heads need to roll for having the Central Bank of the Bahamas having to do this action. Full investigations needed.
@ DWW. The nation has the qualified professionals but there are many who have polite reasons to decline ....to have affiliations with these projects. These projects, businesses, consultantancies will have vacancies for professionals but given toxic environment, it is better to go in the opposite direction. Professionals have a say with whom they work for and affiliated with and go in opposite direction from toxic situations and this is a part of the challenges nation aspirations to build face.
Good points. There are a number of very experienced and highly qualified personnel but the system is having to work with as you pointed out "new cadre of Government and political Appointees" The Unit must have powers to effect fast effective checks, controls mechanism to stop fraud, tieffing, inept inexperienced workers who waste time, money, materials, materials control incl shingles, inevitable line jumpers, cohorts, cheats, crooks, political influences derailing flow etc., On the operational manual absent, there is always one to fit the situation but question is, who would you want to deal with without checks and controls etc in a system....another political appointee. Lol. Fully independent professionals with full powers needed.
Education underpins transformative changes. Ministry of Education needs to be gutted...repeated policies year after year by alternating political parties doing the same thing expecting change is insane.
Frequent national Electricity plant, electrical power outages blamed on weather and technical issues....well they needs to learn from the jitney bus driver, who have the ability to carry reliable service to his passengers and have available the technical expertise to operate his bus with one small 6 cylinder Diesel bus engine.
Changes unlikely to be done by officials in positions of power as each alternating party in govt supported by status quo, voted by, selected by same every 5 years going on 25 years was a failure by electorate. Expected changes doing the same thing cannot give different results. Biggest concern is Climate change and low likely flooded zones mortgaged homes, businesses tied to the banks and repeated bank policies to lend almost full amounts on risky properties.
......indeed. The entity has had Govt Legislators, sitting in Parliament who have at times as loan customers as rights to be so following entity policy, as lawyer former Legislator representing former MP Legislator Miller and customer, has as MP's as Opposition in Parliament on matters of the entity...and now as MPs Legislators and Ruling party in Govt on funding entity, seems number of former Legislators and likely ones who are former or present Shareholders ...and the list of former or present Govt Officials as Legislators, MP's, former or Pesent Ministers, former Opposition or present Ruling party and even a former Governor of the Central Bank revealing in public some $100 Million dollars invested for collateral valued some $22.5 Million dollars. Public Inquiry needed and accounting of the Public Treasury and National Investment Board's investment of the People Funds in the entity. Public Inquiry needed.
