"...debris removal in the shanty town communities in Abaco are almost complete."
For decades these clearly illegal structures grew and grew with illegal generators some half a million cost, these areas have been knows by govt officials even doing census, putting out fires and have some 60 million dollars sent to Haiti from huge clusters of these illegal settlements and others. And now sticking more continuous costs to the nation. At least the Authorities should fire the Authorities who were inept in not years ago removing illegal shanty towns and ot least apply lien on land for land clearing, removing debris.

Doing wrong by minority should not be rewarded at expense by majority law abiding citizens who respect Constitution and laws and no individual or group is above Law and Constitution of the sovereign nation of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas

Good points. The Commonwealth of the Bahamas and the often national mentioned "failed educational system" must also lay parallel to the hundreds even tens of thousands of Bahamian students for decades who went abroad and phenomenal excelled. Many rise to top levels Doctors, scientists, top high tech etc you name it, often see them on TV but now citizens of other countries starting families adding skills and support to new country and removing parents, siblings also.

Later shots fired in area and Police responded but no body found 5 hours earlier seems 2-3 am at the time shortly after 7 am time cited next morning Saturday. Very sad

Without doubt the Govt should build its own airport on higher less flood prone area where entire Bahamian and other residents cannot cannot be held hostage on island by often flooded present airport owned by private owners reluctant in fixing it back to working order.
Preposterous publictly humilating Bahamians, residents, businesses by not quickly puttung back activities that depend on essential Airport.
Time to fire all the Govt authorities who oversaw this atrocious delay to airport servicing the people and businesses on island.
Way past time to build new Airport on Govt land to at more times capaple of servicing island, on higher ground and enabling areas outside Port area to grow, develop businesses etcetc.

On GB airport awaits inspection today

The problen is not entirely to blame them. The problem of the ptoblrm is the Commonwealth of the Bahamas for 1. Decades of comically inability to protect its borders and have boatloads of illegal boats breeching its borders and having illegal boats sail e days and land on islands to offload people 2. Inability for Authorities, politicians campaign promoses for decades but no results. 3. Negotiations with Haiti Leaders but always form the fail state to outsmart them 4. Inability to follow own Bahamian laws to prohibit building of shantytowns by illegals but apply the Building Permit laws to lawful Bahamians 5. Inability to understand Haitians culture, ecomomics, anything it seems - culture Restavik to have kids remain with others in Bahamas as parenf is deported even though Authorities have Birth Certificate, Hospital Records so that caught deported parents can be smuggled back, Living in a shanty is luxury to many as Bahamians do not know failed Haiti conditions, schooling is basically non existant in Haiti, giving lousy processing of paperwork for years encourages anchor babies to do better in the Bahamas and proliferate abd govt assisted all govt facilities. 6.Govt for decades used Citizenship notices in papers without photo now changed but have ones before Dorian listed as address as living in the Shantytown authorities fully knowing the applicant is broken the law livong residence n illegal location. 7.etcetcetc...THE protests should be down the road of the Haitian Embassy straight to the Bahamian Elected Authorities Offices on Parliament St.

Public commenting of RBC when in past RBC and its company Finco was not declaring dividents many companies with other owned competiting banks being traded on the Bahamas Stock Exchange while James Smith former Chairman of Resolve having Govt pump in 100 million dollars for assets valued only 22.5 million from BoB. Govt paid 100 million dollars to prop up Bank of the Bahamas despite free enterprize and market forces economy. Additionally hundreds of millions pumped into BoB while others have to compete with govt interferance and his revealation.
So there are no public investications, everything irregular happens but nothing happens and without shame continues on his area of expertise advise financial public commentary.

Should the Govt Statistics not know that the Govt Ministry been advertising that the zBahamas is agsin open for business?
Did they not know govt programs Ministers, Govt delegates are doing work now in Abaco and Grand Bahama?

This is a good opportunity to find out labour details on these islands as a result of the disaster Another govt dept is proactive putting together details to promptly put the islands back to work if a disaster occurs.

Why shouldnt the Statistics Department try to find out now like any other department doing legwork now in Abaco and Grand Bahama in their Govt Drpartments rather than to wait until next time closer to next election campaign and announce some high figures of people employed and improved conditions?

He did indeed caught on this one. Given all his experience just picking a number for minimum is bizzare. And then going to the Government Statistics Department with highly questionable data produced likely explains his figure pick.

First a proper determination should involve education skills, other comparable figure, benefits of job, supply and demand of labour, true salary offered by thousands of employers advertising low salary to keep their migrant worker for years renewing Work Permit and perks benefits bonus with free education for having children and living in exceedingly low cost hoising in illegal shanty, some employers pay way above to employees deemed working at minimum wage for work ethic etc., prodictivity, competition, many other variablis should also be in the selected minimum wage.

Anyone should go in the opposite direction for data than in using the Govt Department of Statistics alone in coming up with a minimum wage by same Government.

Agree with BREA President. Definitely needed a lot more details, like giving away freehold land for life versus leasehold of peoples Crown land and bringing up again taxi plates for life or other in perpetuity financial arrangements at depletion of citizens taxpayers treasury assets.

All those insurance companies sending people immediately after storm and cut settlement cheques need to go to jail for defrauding homeowners. Commonsense is that when salt water floods area 1. salt affects the rebar steel in foundation and parts deteriorate weakening concrete and then cracks appear much later the cheque is cut 2. Areas close to sea and others open areas have their structures vibrate with sea waters keep hammering area like mini earthquake in the earth under structure altering foundation sitting on 3. Areas have to bbe subsoil examined like runway tamac undersaltwater whether cavities created and whether water evaporated or created channels cavaties altered soil etc underground, how long salt water flood remained over area full or parts and is this every year 4. What is the effect on salt and other mixed chemical matter on different parts of subsoil 5. did some chemicals, oils get into subsoil and altering adjoining area subsoil etcetc Hurricane damage is like the insurance people rushing in soon after and cutting cheques is wrong. 6. What happens even after cheque is cut repairs to above ground stricture and then newly rebuilt structure has cracks??? Perhaps some cash and agreement to recheck on structire every time periods after before final settlement or something like that.
