PPPs never work out, long history of them not working out in other places. Bahamian health care should not be for sale to private operators.
If however they want to buy BPL outright am all in favour of it. Sell it all to them. It will do much better in private hands. BPL in public hands is a proven disaster.
Are we going to replace this all with solar and wind or lock in another 50 years of climate change and toast our chances of ever cutting emissions?
Same applies to LNG on Nassau. Why does no one want to own up to the fact building new LNG import facilities will mean we can never meaningfully cut our fossil fuel emissions or go green?
If one considers how the oceans are drowning in plastic, a charge on bags is the least we could do. So good on the government for at least starting our journey off plastic.
Lets say the oceans more or less lose all productivity after 100 years of more plastics, what will fish cost then? Would there even be any?
People survived long before the plastic era did they not?
Ah, I would say firm no. For profit health in the US results in much higher cost per patient and lower life expectancy than in all other G20 type countries. So this is not a route we should go.
Given their history of at sea dumping and coverups and the low economic benefit they bring to the Bahamas per visitor why do we even still allow cruise ships?
To enable the further growth of an industry whos profit is by nature empowered by its being beyond practically all government regulation? This is wise?
BPL should be privatized to mean the public is not on the hook for any more of its debts and other shortcomings, a private owner would be much more vigilant with its monies.
If Hatian labour built a lot of what is on modern day Abaco and its been wiped out who is going to repair it? Most Bahamians probably don't want to camp out in the conditions there over the next couple of years while its all rebuilt. I mean how many really are willing to be without running water and power while critical rebuilding is done? And expats would cost a fortune driving up rebuilding costs. So yeah, Abaco will not be "better" if its not fully rebuilt. I don't actually want the same to make the Bahamas better. Sell off BEC, and kick out the cruise ships and will get much better. If no one has noticed mass deportations have already been going on for years now with little economic improvement to the Bahamas. So more of the "same" will not make things better.
A refreshing and balanced look at the issue for all those who think just "deporting all the Hatians will make the Bahamas great". It won't and would in fact make it worse!

And still we want to build more fossil fuel power plants powered by LNG? If not now, when exactly when do we get off fossil fuels?

Why so much focus on who will provide the power and not how can you be investing so much in fossil fuels if you are serious about climate change?
Or if you aren't serious, why aren't we being honest and pulling out of the Paris climate accord?
