It's really sad - the people vote 'for' a party because theoretically they have solutions, or at least better solutions than the other party. Here we have an example why it really doesn't matter because none of them have solutions to issues that affect Bahamians. If there was foreign interests at stake you could rest assured they would figure it out...

"Residents and tourists were not treated entirely the same when the country’s borders reopened. Unlike tourists, short-term travellers who left for 72 hours or less were not required to produce a negative RT-PCR test result and on their return to the country many were not entered into the Hubbcat system that monitors people in quarantine. Many were also not placed into a government designated quarantine facility."

While Bahamians who travelled to Florida when the borders opened obviously exercised poor judgement (in the opinion of many), the government's decision to use the guideline to not require testing or quarantine if a Bahamian spent less than 72 hours in the USA is a highly questionable decision.

In the days and weeks before the July opening of the borders the spike in new cases in Florida should have caused an adjustment in the decision to do so.

The suggestion of the Prime Minister is that the blame, the only blame and cause of the spike in cases here, is irresponsible Bahamians, not questionable opening and border policies, not tourists, while the evidence - scant as it is - shows that there are many who share responsibility.

It could be a really neat idea, possibly a great one...

But if the PM is extending his Authority through the end of July is that just for cursory evaluations of phased openings? Does the timing of this event indicate the thought that we will be out of curfew, and enjoying the god awful "new normal" that is to be?

This pathetic scarcity of information, as if Bahamians are to inept to handle information in advance, is ridiculous. Address the stakeholders - all of us - and let us understand what is happening and when instead of announcing it at the last second.

I see some people blaming Minnis, he is but one in a parade of fools who have led to this day, every administration since th contract to allow exploratory drilling was signed has extended it beyond every deadline it failed to reach. All hold responsibility for where we are today.

Anyone who believes The Bahamas (Bahamian citizens) will truly benefit are deluded. Further we stand to lose far more than we will gain from this, things that money cannot replace,

conian7 says...

PM Dr. Minnis, there is a deficit of trust left in the wake of decades of poor governance and lack of transparency - transparency you promised you would bring! You have failed to act on your own promises of transparency and accountability and you want us to blindly trust you... you can't be serious? In case you don't understand it, the accountability and transparency comes BEFORE the deal, not "trust me"; show us a good reason to trust you...

Must confirm with Brave Davis? If they truly want an independent investigation it has to be independent of both parties because of their shared interests and friendships. Sad to say this will go the route of all other investigations.... money wasted and no discernible resolution...

agree absolutely.

While you have a point on one hand, it is a person's right to decide where they want to live. This has been the home of these families for a long time.

Regarding the cost of government provisions/offices etc, there are ways to limit for a small population.

Persons who live in remote locations with small populations should 'expect less' in a sense in facilities.

The sad commentary here is that it appears many Bahamians would prefer to stick with politicians who have a history of failed and inadequate governance. The FNM and PLP have not done that much to warrant such blind faith in their ability to lead this nation - just look at our economy, crime, education, immigration and industries and tell me how GREAT Ingraham or Christie is; after all they, as leaders, are responsible for where we are today.

The DNA offers at the very least the hope of a vision; the potential for change that will include the will of the people (how novel in what is considered a democracy). The ideas and vision of the DNA offer a great alternative to the status quo - after all what has the status quo gotten us so far?

I applaud the efforts of this group. Someone needs to hold government accountable because the politicians aren't going to do it themselves. I'm willing to work with people like this.
