Agreed I noticed this too. They left port before the storm and had to go back to Nassau to get supplies. A forward thinking commander would have had those ships loaded with basic supplies and extra troops before they left port to avoid the storm then drop them straight to Abaco after the storm.
If it were easier for Bahamians to actually get paid to their Bahamian bank accounts for services they provide online we would actually see more companies offering new and tailor services.
I know we are not crime free but using a word such "common" at least against crimes againsts tourist seems a bit extreme. I would like to see the US stats and where they are getting their info from. Maybe the police/government is covering up alot of these incidents but I don't think so.
The description in the rbdf news release is 40-foot conventional sailing yacht. I am assuming not a regular sloop so likely not as much could have fit on that or they were trying to sneak in so everyone was below deck.
