"Turnquest and Minnis are good men, but good men don’t often make good politicians".
I too believe that charisma is important because it can help with national appeal, but I would ask the writer to define what is her idea of a good politician in the Bahamas. It would seem that the answers would show how regressive our politics has been.
Bahamians haven't seen the need to elect persons who put country first and this should be a top core requirement for leadership.
Hope Strachan's assertion that Butler-Turner lost because she is a woman is flawed. Could she also be implying that if the incumbent Minnis was a woman that he would have lost. Strachan can never prove her claim and it is sad that she would try to pull the gender card on this issue. Minnis won fair and square and it is evident who the council believed was the better candidate. This was about influence and this is ultimately what leadership is about. This was probably the cleanest and fairest leadership race since 2006. Don't muddy the waters. Please!!!!!!!!
Same old same old. Fiscally, we are now two levels above junk. Bahamians will not collectively see the importance of holding these under performing officials accountable until it is too late. Sad, but true.
The irony in this is that despite the government trying to play down crime is the fact that Bahamians are actually living in the Bahamas and know full well how bad the crime situation is. They know.
Keeping crime figures hidden only adds to the long standing perception of corruption that is drowning our public officials.
We all know that the FNM is not in the business of revealing the PLP's dirty secrets and the PLP is not in the business of revealing the FNM's dirty secrets; a gentleman's handshake agreement.
