You are out of your mind if you think this thing is going to burn itself out in 3 weeks. The latest computer models show a spike coming anywhere any time after the shut down is lifted, so long as we humans chose to hide form this virus, we will be prisoners
If the government FORCES people out of work they MUST either enact legislation that will protect the poor from unscrupulous landlords OR provide compensation to the tenants/landlords OR let people go back to work.
Maybe they will give those guys doing hydroponics by Lucaya farms an electrical certificate so they can actually turn the system on now. I think the MOW have only had them held up for a year and a half now since the system was installed. Good luck everyone.
I never said this virus is a good thing. It is a horrible natural disaster. I just don't understand why our leaders are so determined to throw our economic baby out with the bathwater. Besides, surely a healthy debate is not dangerous. The Bahamas is still a democracy ..... right ?
The most insane thing with all of this is that the data is showing clearly, that if anyone has a vaguely healthy immune system, their chances of dying from Covid19 are lower than getting run over by a jitney (during curfew). It is extremely noble that the government has forced all of the young and healthy citizens of this country to stay at home to protect the old and the weak but at what point do we step outside and rely on our very own naturally occurring immune system..... instead of placing our entire existence into the hands of a very small group of men that are making up and changing the rules by the hour because they really do not have any idea what to do in the face of a novel crisis.
Did anyone actually get an unemployment check yesterday? I was waiting to hear. We all know how easy it is for these politicians to talk but coordinating cash into hungry Bahamian's hands...... is going to be the difference between the shutdown being a sensible solution to the virus..... and absolute chaos.
nice to see some common sense around here. I am quite sure that we have all already been exposed to the virus for a long time and this shutdown is going to turn out to be the biggest economic disaster brought upon ourselves through sheer ignorance and fear
It is mind-boggling that a democratically elected government can completely remove our right to move about, work, open up for business and dictate who is essential and who is not without any notice or cause. Yes, there is a dangerous virus 'out there' but nobody really has any idea what the deal is. Four confirmed cases so far and they are all home safe and 3 of them never even had any symptoms at all. What if the virus is not contagious in warm weather? What if the population density and social habits of this country do not encourage the communication of the disease compared to China or Europe. What if every one of us has been exposed to it already? The only evidence on the planet that social distancing works came from a communist government that commits genocide on its own people and is famous for distorting the truth. Our government simply made a knee jerk decision to waive every one of our constitutional rights to follow a theoretical solution that will simultaneously destroy our economy and plunge us all into the complete unknown. Everyone thinks they are heroes now but wait until the unemployment checks get held up and the line at NIB is 14 miles long at 6 feet apart. Get ready for 250,000 fit and healthy people that have no money to pay for food
We are all going to starve to death if this foolishness keeps up. The government needs to assist all the high-risk people with isolation and care and let us young healthy people keep the economy going
