I never said that sending civil servants home was the answer. I said that may be no other choice if the government has no revenue. Also I never said that the FNM was better a collecting outstanding taxes. I said governments (FNM and PLP). And what is wrong with the "old idea" of collecting outstanding taxes? Maybe if everyone was paying we would not be in this mess. And yes I do have a problem when governments (PLP andFNM) waste taxpayers money.
@birdie... You seem to believe that VAT is the only solution to reduce the debt. I guess cutting government spending has never crossed your mind. How about collecting outstanding taxes? Too difficult right? VAT will not bring the expected results, especially with our governments record of revenue collection. When this happens the government will have no choice but to layoff civil servants. Private layoffs will happen much sooner I am afraid
Before PC left for Vegas,he ensured that new taxes will be imposed to the Bahamian people. Ironically VAT will mostly hurt lower and middle class families who supported the PLP in the last election. PC rewarded his voters for their stupidity
Wait a minute. According to your colleague Freddie there is unity among the party regarding the referendum. All we see is simply "posturing which comes from the French word to speak". So why the accusations?
Recent quotes by government members on the upcoming referendum. " These are the referendum questions and they will not be changed" " The referendum questions will be changed" " I have not seen the referendum questions" " Maybe there will be no referendum" Is stupidity the order of the day? Just asking
According to FM Bahamians don't deserve any consultation regarding VAT. Apparently this is exactly how foreigners think of him also. He does not deserve any explanation.
It is obvious that PC has lost control of his cabinet and MP's,that is if he ever had any control in the first place. He is trying to save face and stall for time. Too little, too late. More and more MP's are openly defying him. I suppose this is why he constantly reminds everyone that he is PM. This situation has the potential of making the gambling referendum fiasco, look like a joke.

PC cares so much for the poor that imposed a tax that will hurt them the most. Actions speak louder than words.
