By definition members of a union are employed workers. Employees do not generally make strategic decisions; their role is to implement the decisions made by the upper management. Why do these union leaders think that they should be consulted about upper management decisions? They are not the upper management, they are the employees. The doctors are the ones in charge of a psychiatric hospital, not the patients, as the old saying informs us.
There seems to be some misunderstanding about the circumstances that surrounded the compensation monies paid to owners of slaves. To understand the factors involved you have to remove your thinking from 21st century social mores and morality. Most people today have no problem eating veal or steak; it , it be that in 100 years or less most people will be filled with revulsion at the idea, knowing the horrendous life a veal calf is subjected to and the cruelty of the slaughter houses. The abolition of slavery by the British parliant was a political decision as such it required lobbying, compromise, back room deals to get enough mp's to support the legislation. At that time, rightly or wrongly, people could legally own a slave. A slave was worth money. To get enough support for the bill to pass it was necessary to offer compensation for the loss of what up until then was propery that had a value. So it was a purely pragmatic decision necessary to achieve a desirable aim. I believe that the money was raised by the British government issuing bonds and these bonds have only just be paid off a few years ago.
In other news police officers were able mount a large operation that successfully removed a couple of dozen gummy bears with CBD from the streets. Does anyone else think that the state security apparatus is focusing on the wrong things?
Nothing can ever happen without it being part of God's plan. For some reason the Almighty allowed the aircrew to fly Bishop Munroe's private jet fly into this bad weather and crash. Why God caused it to happen will remain a mystery just like the sinking of the RMS Titantic or any other loss of life.
I am still waiting for Christie and his gang to give people the free electricity that they promised when he was last trying to get elected. A politician's promise is a comfort to a fool.
What a complete waste of time, money, and police resources. And now several more thousands will be expended on a trial which will achieve absolutely nothing. I do have to congratulate the fearless officers who carried out this important and daring raid to help protect us all from these suspected dangerous gummy bears..
if our parliament was to more truly represent Bahamians then it should have twenty women members, four or five white members, and one or maybe two of Haitian parental origin.

Why not decrease vat by 8% instead of by 2%? My economic model shows that will increase gubmint revenues by 1.2 billion dollars. LOL.

Most state employed workers in this country get exactly the amount of respect that they deserve, same applies to our union leaders.
