It has been obvious for decades that the mismanagement of the funds held in trust for the contributors by the executive branch of government will inevitably result in NIB being unable to meet it's commitments. In 5 years? 10? certainly by 2040.
if this report is correct Mrs. Butler Turner is proposing the creation of a second and lower class of citizens that do not have the right to vote for five years.. The right to vote is the basic right of a citizen. has she been having too much two meat lunches with Rodney, or what?
This story has a positive sounding headline. One million dollars into the treasury, whoopee. However for a balanced view of this matter I would like to know the cost of this exercise; the cost of the state enforcement officers, the accountants people, the clerks, the supervisors, the supervisors of the supervisors, the overall department supervisors, etc., etc., etc..
At long last an elected official has noticed the enormous green elephant standing in the corner of the room, not only has he noticed but he has seen fit to mention it's existence to the plebiscite. What a refreshing change from Bread and circuses, or should that be Grits and Junkanoo Carnival.
This is a good move by the government. There have been reports of rampant corruption in government departments over the years, removing the temptation of tens of thousands of cash dollars will almost certainly cut down on theft by state employed workers and at the same time greatly increase efficiency and convenience for those needing these services. I suspect that the only people who will object will be those who stand to lose an unofficial extra income that they had enjoyed up to now. This same scenario has just played out at RTD where the licensing process has got so much easier and better in every way.
