How refreshing to have a cabinet minister who simply speaks the truth. Congratulations Hon. Jeff Lloyd, you told everyone what was going to happen long time and now it is actually happening there is the usual whining from the usual people. Stay the course please.
For almost 50 years now the Bahamas has lived in a fiscal fool's paradise. Endlessly borrowing as much as it can to fund an inefficient overpaid civil service and SOE's. Some part of the borrowed money has been spent on infrastructure development, mostly during the tears that the FNM were in control. The rope has now run out and we have to start paying back all that overspending. VAT to 20% like in the UK, 35% Death duties, and possibly income tax. Thank Ministers of Finance in past administrations; you were all totally inept or worse.
looks like a publicity stunt to me. Is this really the best use of very expensive police resources? Surely the government has other departments in other ministries whose function is to do this? Who chose the recipients? And o what basis were they chosen? Who paid for the items donated?
Thank you Rights Bahamas for your courage to speak up for those who otherwise have no voice. Please try to stay above any hateful comments that may be made and know that some people appreciate your work.
Why does this person think that the Labour Day Holiday is patriotic? This is like saying the Christmas holiday is patriotic. I can see why July 10th is considered patriotic but Labour day only celebrates working population who make up way less than half the total. Nothing patriotic here. Move along please.
I have to question how this " greater beach access to our beaches for Bahamians to enjoy in a safe, beautiful environment along with our guests", just how are the Bahamians going to get access to Mr. Smith's beach? How do they get across to Paradise Island? How much will the ferry ride or parking cost? What will be the cost to go onto his what will become his privately owned beach? The government needs to be very careful with this; talk is cheap, always.
The employees in the civil service need to start funding their own pensions. They have had free ride at everyone else's expense for way too many decades. The country can not fully recover and thrive economically unless this problem is addressed.
Mr. Allen just does not get it with regards to the wealthy ex-pat residents. He is not alone of course. These wealthy residents choose to live here, not because of our high murder rate, not because of the threat to property from storms, not because of the academic achievement of the populace, but because they do not have to pay a high amount of taxes. That's it. Increase taxes too much and they will relocate to another country that offers a more welcoming tax regime. You never miss the water until the well run dry. These wealthy residents contribute much to our economy but Mr. Allen seems to want to risk driving them away. Let us hope his political ambitions fail.
