One of the greatest tests that face a leader of a small developing country is hubris. The elected leader. for a four year term, may develop a delusion that he, or she, is a statesman of influence on the world's stage, so much so that he, or she, may forget or ignore the challenges that are faced by the electorate who provided the voting mandate that gave this person the power to even have a voice in international affairs. As always; pride goeth before a fall.

The extremely high murder rate that this country is experiencing, one of the highest in the world, is due to a mix of complex factors; as such there cannot be a single simple solution. However there are things that can be done which will show results in the future. Children who are not properly socialized in the first two or three years of life are much more likely to engage in undesirable behavior. This is a problem for the family to correct, by the time the child goes to school it is too late. An unwanted child is much more likely to fall into this category therefore the solution may be to create less unwanted children by giving women full and complete and affordable control over their reproductive ability. A change in the laws of the land would be necessary to achieve this. Another necessary but politically unpopular thing that the government could do is to regularize the thousands, (tens of thousands), of undocumented migrants who are excluded from the legal work force because of their lack of legal status. These people have no other recourse but to find ways to create an income that is not legal. There are other things that can be done but that is enough for this comment.

There is something just deeply wrong with birdiestrachan castigating someone for being political. Has anyone ever seen a post of birdie strachan that is not political.

Is this an economic battle between a large clawed tiger and a toothless mouse? Who will win?

When the US has a Democratic Administration then it seems that the Bahamas real estate businesses do better than when a Republican Administration is in power.

My understanding is that a former prime minister, and at his death, his surviving spouse, get a very very generous pension for the rest of their lives; as voted to the first majority rule prime minister by an overly sycophantic cabinet. There is a catch though; the pension is only awarded if the recipient holds the ice two or more times. The result is that one time holders of the of this elected office will almost always try to be elected again.

On a strictly per capita basis The Bahamas as a country does not not do well in terms of our contribution to using fossil fuels and producing green house gases. It not just our diesel powered generation of electricity but more the air travel of our major industry.
