The non existant problem does actually exist; not for the cititizens but for the State, The State wants to get 12& tax on each and every transaction and that is not happening at the moment. When all transaction are digital the State can better monitor them and collect more tax from the people and the business owners. Selling your car to your cousin? The State will want 12% of that price.
There has been obvious and egregious fiscal mismanagement in every administration since a majority rule government got into power, The elephant in the economy's dining room is the tens of thousands who are employed by the state, is it really 40% of the total workforce? . State employed workers do not create wealth in an economy, they only absorb the wealth created by the private sector. A better alternative, less bureaucrats needed, to income tax, is estate tax, what used to be called death duties. Simply put 35% of everyone's estate is remitted to government upon death. If this ever happens then I predict many more visits by wealthy elected politicians to Cayman and the Turks; that both are offshore tax havens used by rich people to minimize taxes will purely coincidental.
It is a sad indicment of the caliber of our country's politicians that many of the electorate will wonder if these purported threats are real or just yet another trick to distract from the dire and immediate challenges that face the continued existance of the country as a viable entity.
Most of the 8 billion tourists who visit this country do not arrive by air, they come on cruise ships. I am happy to be corrected by I believe each of these visitors pays the government a tax to visit our land. The cruise ship passengers contribute tens of billions of dollars to the government revenue stream. Are those who so easily oppose the cruise ship lines visiting the Bahamas prepared to pay billions of dollars more in taxes? If the cruise ships stopped coming, then the Bahamian economy would be in very serious trouble. The crown land on Colonial beach on Paradise Island may be the most valuable piece of undeveloped crown land in the country. This explains the contested interest in gaining control by different entities perhaps.
Cannabis has been used legally for thousands of years by countless numbers of people. I know of no known deaths directly attributed to cannabis use. Please compare with deaths directly attributed to alcohol consumption. Also notice the huge numbers of deaths indirectly related to the excessive consumption of refined sugar. I can visit any grocery store and buy as much refined white sugar as I want; I can even supply it to children. I can visit any liquor store and easily buy enough alcohol to poison ten people with no questions asked. I can be arrested for possessing two grams of cannabis. Does anyone else see something wrong with this picture?
Chess is mostly a a battle between two queens of different colours. Pawns must be sacrificed to defend the king as we saw at a recent national televised event. When the ping is captured the game is over.
You just got to absolutely love that uniform with all the medal ribbons, epaulets., and silver buttons. We have never had a commissioner of police with such an outstandingly good-looking uniform.
Since Mr. Evans believes in the existence of a talking snake demon possession. is not much of a stretch. A short hundred years or so ago most people believed that many diseases, leprosy for example, were punishments for sins committed, the established church in Europe fought and preached against the use of vaccines for smallpox; if you caught smallpox and died then that was the will of The Lord and not to be prevented. Blaming mental illness on demons seems very similar. I am just glad the country is a democracy and not a theocracy, can you imagine if a religious zealot was in charge of making and enforcing our laws.
