The Bahamas has one of the highest rates of murder per capita in the world. There should be no surprise that even those living in gated and guarded rich people's communities are not safe from the killings. RIP, our latest victim.

Sheet-runner; you have missed the [point, if you put 193 rodents in a cage with only 153 meals. then you will see conflict.

The Rt. Hon. Arthur Hanna, DPM, <minister of Finance, stayed true to his socialist beliefs, nurtured during those years spent at The London School of Economics. The LSE was created by The Fabian Society, who also shaped British Socialism. I suspect that Sir Lynden Pindling and his wife were, in contrast, most eager to receive a high honors from the British monarch. Time will tell but I will expect that Phil Davis will also nominate himself for a knighthood when the country next qualifies to receive one. Perhaps it will be the price of his retirement as leader of the PLP.

On a per capita basis then The Bahamas may be one of higher polluting countries. We have an antiquated power generation system, a lack of public transportation so most people drive a private vehicle. We have well over 100,000 vehicles in a population of under 400,000. The only real industry in the country is mostly dependent on air travel, which is considered a major contributor to the dramatic increase in carbon in our atmosphere. We have a plank in our eye while pointing out the motes in the eyes of others.

Sheepruiner; just so, you are correct. The more desperate that you are, the more vulnerable you are to the low Lifes who are waiting to prey on you. In our country lowlifes are rewarded with titles, riches, and government appointments.

To accuse the local banks of predatory lending is an exaggeration that is probably thrown by someone who found that he actually had to pay back the monies borrowed. The far greater danger to consumers/borrowers is the short term-high interest unsecured loans advanced against pay checks. If a gambling house is making a huge amount of profit on a daily basis, then setting up a company that extends short term-high interest loans is a great way to put that money to work to make even more. This hopefully is not happening, but it is a clear and present danger that other countries have passed legislation to minimize predatory fiscal abuse.

AS i see it there are three disadvantages to becoming a republic and one advantage. The advantage is that cronies and large dollar donors to the prime minister's party will no longer be able to be rewarded with one of these risible knighthoods or damehoods. The disadvantages are; the huge expense of implementing a presidency. losing the Privy Council, the Court of final appeal in the world, and lastly the severing of any moral obligation that England may feel to welcome Bahamian subjects unto The United Kingdom when the rising sea levels inevitably make our country untenable for continued habitation.
