Boy, all he said was that the government is not being serious about battling outright corruption by serving politicians and that no administration to date has dealt with corruption in Bahamian politics.
Why are you people reminding him about a drug lord he represented in an extradition case and who bankrolled his election campaign in South Eleuthera!!! What's wrong with that?
Then when his drug lord client's extradition case came up again and Allyson said that the Attorney General's copies of the files went missing and then after he offered his resignation as Minister and the Prime Minister refused to accept it and he stayed on as Minister you'll looking at him funny again. Man. he can't please you'll!!
If that wasn't enough you'll still talking bout how he and Allyson hightailed it out of town and left Jerome to do the dirty work in letting Allyson's client who was before the Courts for smuggling guns and ammunition go free. What was wrong with that???
To tell you'll the truth, he's really been looking for corruption and conflicts of interest in the PLP but he hasn't found any. He even Investigated Perry, Allyson, Brave, Shane, Fitzgerald, Bradley, Dorsett, Forbes, etc., and their families to see if they had any leases and contracts with Baha Mar, China Construction and the sale of the Hilton Hotel to the Chinese and Bradley, again, in connection with the 1989 BEC bribery case.
He did not find a single case of corruption and conflict of interest. Not one!! Because in the PLP corruption and conflict of interest are viewed as instruments through which PLPs secure their entitlements. So how you'll expect him to expose something which does not exist in his party?
You'll unfair now. You'll could have, at the very least, given him credit for finding corruption in the FNM!!! LOL!

Senator Sharon Wilson says "We are not retained or employed by the government,…….I’m not familiar with this matter, and will have to look into it, but we are not employed by the government.”

This response lacks credibility when one considers the following: (1) Bahamas Resolve is wholly owned by the Bahamas Government; (2) The Bahamas Government is BOB's majority shareholder and (3) The Senator's law firm sharon wilson & co.'s stamp appears on the cover sheets of two separate Bank of The Bahamas to Bahamas Resolve Limited documents: A Transfer Of Mortgages document dated October 30th, 2014 and an Affidavit Of Loss Of Transfer Of Mortgages dated June 10th, 2015.

Both documents were lodged for record with the Registrar General on June 26th 2015. Yet she insists "’m not familiar with this matter, and will have to look into it, but we are not employed by the government.” WOW! I suppose when she is next questioned on this matter she will claim to have been engaged by deloitte & touche her husband's former accounting firm or she might take a page out of the Attorney General's playbook and claim this matter was handled by her daughter who is an Associate / Partner of Sharon Wilson & Co. law firm.

No matter how this is sliced and diced by Senator Wilson, her firm was engaged / retained to provide legal services for two government - owned entities as was Deloitte and Touche.

Yes,Mr. Symonette, I am worried too……..for different reasons. We would have witnessed the recent postponement of the PLP's convention which was scheduled to be held next month. The reason for this being Baha Mar's failure to meet completion deadlines on which Mr, Christie was depending to have something to brag about at convention. He was hoping that Baha Mar would help deliver a portion of the 10,000 jobs promised by the PLP during the course of the 2012 election campaign.

Mr. Christie is desperate;y seeking something to boost his government's ragged image due to his colossal failures over the past 2 1/2 years. He will make a deal with the devil to boost his government's image….and to that extent he will allow the proverbial "tail wagging the dog".

Yes, Mr, Symonette I am worried. I am worried that the Bahamian people will become so fed up with this administration's failure to effectively address the country's woes that they will once again chain themselves, not only to Mr. Christie's gates, but to those other incompetent, corrupt and victimizing politicians.

i am worried.

Lawyers in this country have been literally getting away with "stealing" clients money and land assets and when caught receiving what amounts to a slap on the proverbial wrist.

Mr, Thompson's new business venture is troubling for reasons not addressed in this article - attorneys owning title search companies and also rendering opinions on the title search results and in addition also providing title insurance as well.

Where else in the world could this happen? Only in The Bahamas!

Question: Are Bahamian physicians allowed to own pharmacies???

This is obviously a most emotive issue evidenced by the previous commentary. You would all do well to muffle the growing hysteria. The Haitians are our brothers who have been coming here, settling and assimilating for centuries: the Benjamins, Dillets, Eneas, Perpall, DeStoop-Munnings, Theophilus, Duvalier, Poitier, Bonimy and yes, the Mitchells as in Fred.
The problems we are now having with all illegal immigrants in The Bahamas is the extent to which it has been facilitated by corrupt politicians and public officers who have been failing the Bahamian public for ages in all arrears of governance.

These politicians and public officers have been continually propped up by citizens looking the other way and accepting their corruption and aiding, abetting and profiting from same depending on their political colors.

The painful fact of the matter is: we are the problem! not the haitians. it's us. we continue to allow these politicians, pastors and public officers to ruin our bahamaland. and yes, we continue to be played and preyed upon by them.

every time the government's in trouble they trot out the "haitian" problem to distract us from their failings. do not be distracted. let us focus on ridding ourselves of this crop of politicians, wherever they appear…no matter what colors they happen to be wearing.

Bahamians for the most part are not seeking youthful nor aged leaders, We are seeking competent political leadership. Dr, Minnis does not exude the requisite political acumen and skill sets so vital for inspiring leadership and good governance.

As for his plans for a "New Bahamas" …. Dr. Minnis is misguided. We do not need a new nnation... we need to build upon what exists…..with all hands on deck,,,no matter what "ERA" we happen to be from.

We need to be about "Building A Batter Bahamas" which is only possible through the deployment of competent leaders… young and old.

On Minnis is a new kind of leader

For the benefit of Sheeprunner12, Generalcrazy and other commentators, the following information is provided for your edification:

Lyon Clemson Smith was born in Bottle Creek, North Caicos, Turks & Calicos Islands on 10th August 1948 to Lionel and Laurie Smith (nee Saunders).

lyon clemson smith changed his name to lloyd clement smith, falsified an affidavit of birth, dated September 23rd 1970, claiming to have been born in Millville, Abaco to one Elizabeth Smith on January 21st 1945 and obtained a Bahamian passport with the assistance of a corrupt and now deceased Passport Officer.

The Affidavit utilized to secure the passport was not registered with the Registrar General.

There is no record of the birth of one lloyd clement smith,
dated the 21st day of January 1945, listed In the Registrar General’s Birth Records.

All for now……..

Hi comrades, the issue of Holiday Construction’s CEO, the Rev.Lloyd Smith, citizenship was raised once before before. During the course of delivering the keynote address at the recent FNM rally, Party Leader, Dr. Hubert Minnis alluded to something that was evidently missed by the press covering the rally.

While addressing the current controversy surrounding the contract awarded to the Rev. Lloyd Smith to build a virtual replica of the office complex now housing the office of the Attorney General, Dr. Minnis said: "…. they say they believe In Bahamians. Let’s hope they awarded this contract to a Bahamian citizen!"… thereby suggesting that Mr. Smith may not be a citizen of The Bahamas.

As it turns out, Dr. Minnis has opened a Pandora’s box. Enquiries made as a follow-up to Dr. Minnis’ statement reveal that Rev. Smith was born in Bottle Creek, North Caicos, and Turks & Caicos Islands.

Friends and relatives of Rev. Smith, in the Bahamas and the Turks & Caicos Islands, claim they knew him as a child and young adult in the Turks & Caicos where he was born and carried the name: Lyon Clemson Smith and that Rev. Smith changed his name to Lloyd Clement Smith when he came to The Bahamas in the 1960s.

The level of cynicism and opinions expressed on various topics here is not surprising. We live in a society where a very large segment wear the proverbial “Blinders” and are incapable of discussing national issues sans the usual political bent. Until we as a people develop to a level where we are able to “call a spade a spade”, if you will, notwithstanding our “Tribal Connections”, will we come together and build a better Bahamas. Our opinions on national issues must not be shaded red, yellow or green. May I suggest we employ shades of black, aquamarine and gold instead.
