Wear a mask or don't wear a mask...it's a personal choice just like taking a vaccine jab. We are all adults and can decide for ourselves. All I hear from the Bahamas is how important tourism is to the economy. Either you want tourist to travel here without all the encumbrances of entering the Country, or it's all double speak. Make up your mind! There are plenty of Caribbean countries that have eliminated testing and are more welcoming than The Bahamas.
Why do pregnant Bahamian women fly to the United States to give birth? To get a US Passport and Social Security Number, which makes life easier for their children with dual citizenship.
There are still many parts of Abaco without power to date and most of us were without power for more than a year beginning September 1, 2019. So, yeah, the people of Abaco have had it worse than anyone.
I was under the impression that DRA was partnering with several other foundations to build the new community center/ hurricane shelter in Abaco and have received donations in that regard. Also, Darren Clarke, professional golfer, and The Abaco Club at Winding Bay have also solicited donations to help build the hurricane shelter.
I truly hope that the construction moves at a steady pace to ensure there is some form of shelter before we're in the midst of another hurricane. Godspeed!
Finger pointing at the United States should be declared the National Sport as well as the National Pastime of the Bahamas. Are Bahamians ever responsible for anything in their own Country? Or is it always someone else's fault? Sheesh - grow up!!
The Bahamas is currently serving a 3 year term on the United Nations Human Rights Council.
"During its term on the Council, The Bahamas has pledged to ensure that the interests of caricom States, SIDS and other Small States are well served, as well as to draw greater attention to the nexus between human rights and issues such as climate change and sustainable development. The Bahamas will continue to underscore the importance of technical assistance and support for capacity building in the promotion and protection of human rights."
You can find the full statement on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.
You do realize that the Bahamas became a member of the United Nations on 18 Sept 1973? By doing so, they agreed to abide by the tenants and rules set forth by the United Nations, one of which is to Protect Human Rights. Whether it is false imprisonment or the destruction of shanty towns, the Bahamas is subjected to the same scrutiny as they give to other countries who belong to the United Nations.
This is without a doubt the most concise and well written article I have had the pleasure to read in The Tribune in a very long time. Well done and well said.
