I firmly believe that the Government has bitten off more than it can chew by lowering VAT to 10%. We get that it was an election promise that appears to be fulfilled but it has obviously resulted in a shortfall on income and they are making up the difference big time by taxing us "every which way but loose". I think the PM should swallow his pride and take the rate back up to 12% and return the breadbasket items to being VAT free and ease up on just taxing us at every opportunity. A blind man can see they struggling.
This is beyond lip service now. Who controls the Central Bank? Is the Governor not appointed by the politicians? Why do they have to beg the Central Banak to do its job, and why are they not in Parliament legislating instead of just talking?
I agree. The common denominator seems to be that they all were interrogated at CID and right after were murdered and none of the murders are solved. Something stinks in Denmark.....
Well said. The cost of living is extremely high in the Bahamas so all an increase in minimum wage will do is drive the prices of everything up as it is a business cost and businesses aim to make a profit. Wages cut into that.
I think this is a regional issue and out of control is an understatement. They are doing it in most of the Caribbean countries and our politicians are sitting by and just letting it happen.
They give little or no interest on savings but charge you a monthly "maintenance fee" to keep an account with them. It's a sophisticated form of stealing or highway robbery.
To add insult to injury you used to think that it was just the foreign banks, but now some of the local Bahamian banks are joining the fray. Fidelity bank is now charging some $5 plus VAT to make a deposit with a teller. They call it a "teller's fee" although I am sure the teller is not getting a dime of the charge. How is anyone being charged for "saving" with a bank who takes the money, lends it out and then charges interest so technically is benefitting from your saving with them? Make it make sense, please!
Gotta join a union bank, who at this rate will probably soon start charging too, or just put it back under the mattress like the old days. Think it's a lot safer there, anyway.
Still don't think they will win the next election with Pintard at the helm, but we can all breath a collective sigh of relief that Minnis did not win - now that would have been a travesty!! LOL
They don't make them like Loftus Roker anymore. If politicians had taken a page from his book on immigration instead of selling our country for votes, we would not be in the predicament we now find ourselves in with illegal immigration. He will definitely be missed.
It is a sad day indeed when a former leader of a party that was soundly defeated at the polls is this delusional. The PLPs were banging on the tables when he walked into Parliament the other day. They are rooting for him to win as it equals a guaranteed second term for Brave Davis and Co. I tend to agree with them. Perhaps after the next beatdown, he will finally get a clue and go off into the sunset with Ingrahm and Christie.
Sadly, Minnis continues to delude himself into thinking he can lead this country again. He needs to take a hint from both Ingraham and Christie. A rejection at the polls sent them both packing and he needs to join them. The people have spoken.
