... and of course there's also the possibility of forgery as iillegals have been known to forge passports, birth certificates, etc. Also, what about those who are 'born here' and do not get to apply for citizenship until aged 18? Technically those persons are in limbo and are not yet officially "citizens"? How do you really weed out the wheat from the tares?
A friend reiterated this story to me on the weekend. She recently tried to go through US Customs and Immigration and the US Officer was giving her an "attitude". She let the Bahamian in her rise up and proceeded to cuss the officer out. Needless to say, she did not travel that day even though she had a valid passport and US-issued visa!
So if I were a white illegal (and we do have those) and I wanted to get over in a road raid to catch illegals, then going forward all I would do was say, "I work for UBS, the largest bank in the world who is supplying your country with badly neded financial resources. But guess what? I don't have my papers on me so you can't arrest me". Cool way to get over, don't you think?
So Tal I guess illegals do not travel or hangout where the legals do? This thinking is irrational. They live, breathe and move among us. I would think this is why they don't get caught because they 'appear' to be normal citizens. And by the way, I do believe that out of this last road block they caught over 70 that were illegals so to inconvenience the other 40 legals is a small price to pay in my humble view. I commend the Immigration Department for doing a great job and not letting one sorry-hip expat with a nastry attitude give them a bad name.
It made the headline because this paper has an obvious axe to grind with Immigration. If you have been following the immigration stories you would see right through this..
I agree. If anyone is paying attention, most of them DO NOT result in convictions. Overturned on appeal, not guilty verdicts and nolle prosequis are the norm. Justice Bernard Turner you are sorely missed!
Rory I cannot agree with you on this. While I am not a fan of "Papa" or any of his cohorts. the point is crime is getting worse in this country and no matter who the Government of the day is, it needs to be addressed. One of those ways is the entrenchment of capital punishment into our constitution.
While I agree that I may not stop the killing, it will certainly put some fear in those who calously kill without fear of being killed themselves - albeit by the State. At least Ms. Seymour is trying to do something about it - where others (Rodney Moncur, et al) have failed and I wish her every success.
Cann57. It has happened. Cleola Hamilton had a brother murdered. Bran McCartney (although no longer in the house) had a brother murdered and the DPM was held up at gun point. Rip Van Winkle been wake. I guess he must be sleep walking.
