It’s bad when you have to plead with a Government to let you reopen so that you won’t go belly up. It’s like they are blind and cannot see. What kills me is 99.99% of us won’t ever get Covid but get to stand helplessly by and watch the economy tank.
This curbside purchase of clothing is totally foolish. I recently tried shopping for an article of clothing and was told to go online and look at the item and the store owner would meet me outside with the item I picked. Needless to say, it was impossibly to just look at the item to determine if it would fit and the sales clerk refused to let me inside to try it on. I ended up driving away in frustration and tried another store that actually let me inside. Although I didn’t purchase an item it definitely was easier to touch and actually try the clothing. I just wonder whose bright idea it was to allow clothing stores to sell only on the curbside. The first store clerk appeared to be afraid and frustrated. The second clearly threw caution to the wind. People doing what they have to do including breaking the law to make a dollar. I agree that the curbside clothing sales cannot work. Why pay for brick and mortar and hold thousands of dollars in stock just to have someone sound outside and purchase. It’s foolish.
I have never seen anything so confusing. The first covid case shows up around March 20 and the whole country is put on lockdown. So how is it you have a whole person die from covid and it takes you almost 2 months to lock a small tightly knit island down? I don’t get the rationale. I agree with the resident who said the people who have it will still have it in two weeks. It obviously took a month for the first case after the lady’s death to show up so what is a two week lockdown stopping? I agree that they need to keep testing unless they running out of test kits and don’t want to admit it.
And to think he’s getting his full salary at the end of this month which will allow him to pay his bills and purchase groceries while the rest of us mere mortals get to depend on a cheque from NIB that will barely cover either.
I agree. I think going forward businesses should find a way to incorporate online shopping. Went to Kelly’s today and the shoppers’ trolleys were full of microwaves, pots and pans. Bahamians are not broke. They are bored and for that reason will continue to shop for non essential items like food and clothing. Imagine if they had the option of shopping online from the comfort of their homes.
Dr Sands lies standing up. He said they were prepared for the virus but yet when that poor lady in Bimini got it there were no emergency measures in place to bring her to Nassau resulting in her death. Then he announces weeks later that they now have emergency containers to transport civics patients. Wait a minute. Shouldn’t this have been in place before the first case showed up? I truly believe they are not giving us the full story and a lot is being hidden and covered up with press releases and briefings under pretense of being prepared when truly they are just winging it and haven’t got a clue what to do.
I’ll bet the first sermon is ‘God told me to tell you that if 10 people sow a $500 seed Carona will not harm you’ and 10 fools will go running and put it in the offering pan. Mission accomplished!!!
This statement is coming from a Government who spent its first year in office firing thousands of Government workers. Where was the compassion they had? Yet so-called ‘wealthy’ people are supposed to keep paying staff to stay home doing nothing? It doesn’t make sense. Who goes into business to lose money. Business is for profit so if your overhead is high (I.e. in paying out salaries for work not being done your bottom line is clearly going to be affected.
I think they are finally starting to feel the pinch at NIB. NIB has been used as a slush fund by successive governments who wasted it constructing many Government buildings which never maintained, paying it out through inflated contacts to family friends and lovers and let’s not forget how that Cargill fella who ran it paid himself and his board members at the time hefty bonuses. Now it’s time to pay the laid off workers who have contributed and the money has to be found.
Additionally let’s not forget that this same Government has been taxing us up the yong yang by increasing VAT. Where are millions collected in VAT. It can no longer be channeled to family friends and lovers. It has to be paid back to the people in benefits.
She needs a letter from NIB detailing her benefits? We need a better system than this. Government Departments should be able to interact with each other fir information. She has a smart card I assume. Why was it given and why aren’t people’s information accessible through it? Why frustrate people who actually need help.
I remember Diaguliar promising to fix this - a one stop shop for businesses to avoid turn arounds and red tape. Same needs to apply in such circumstances. Come on. We’ve got to do better!

At this rate we’ll all soon need a tax break. The longer this lockdown lasts, the harder the comeback for all non-essential businesses.
Let’s pray for a cure because this pandemic is not of God.
