Talkie talk, do you read anywhere in this article where the accountant is advocating not providing due process? What are your talking about, other than you just liking to see your comments in print for all to read? Must just be a Friday make yourself feel good about yourself kind of thing. he is saying there are no penalties for violators. He didn't say anything about sending the accused up to the "bring your own pale club" before someone is found guilty.
Passenger Utility Fee will solve all the problems. what a joke. Georgetown and North Eleuthera were going to get these new airports- both are an embarrassment to the government and country. Solution now? create a Passenger Utility Fee and that will solve the funding problems. Even though the Bahamas already is the most expensive Caribbean destination in its market place, lets "add some more taxes" to solve this problem too. Yes, let's increasingly make sure that when there is an economic downturn, that the Bahamas is the last place tourists will go to because they will be priced out of the marketplace. And let's forget the commitment the government made to at least get these two higher volume airports renovated so passengers are not lining up like livestock in the street to board their planes. 1% is what they could come up with? How about taking that 1% and spending that $2M on hiring the necessary forensic accountants to figure out where the $100's of millions of dollars went during the Christie administration? Keep the 1% and get the necessary money that was stolen to take care of this airport problem these out Islands have. I am sorry. this is a joke. A disappointment. And another bait and switch move by government. Promise some progress in areas that are so desperately needed and then say, "Whoops.... we can only find 1% of what is needed now". Oh, and let's keep dragging out feet on all the outstanding Real Tax bills that exist out there. Many by the wealthiest Bahamians in the country. No, let' just keep taxing, Vating, and dutying ourselves out of the tourism business.
Also, there needs to be some guarantee that the chicken is processed, frozen, and kept frozen until it gets to out Islands. Chicken is a bacteria haven. Thawed and refrozen chicken from Abaco, with their proposed quota limits, cannot be accepted as part of a limit of alternative imported sources, if they cannot make certain that transportation of their product is done safely
These electricity rates are completely insane. Just received my electricity bill for last month and almost choked. I am lucky. I can still barely afford to pay these ridiculous, unjustifiably high bills. I really feel sorry for all the people who go without power because it is choice between food or lights. This is a national emergency that will clearly stifle all kinds of economic growth, and clearly, force people to living in the dark. This needs to be dealt with in the most serious way. Lip service to this one is not going to cut it. Another huge nail in the coffin of the Bahamas economic and quality of life deterioration. That is unless you are the guy selling fuel and fixing generators ignored generators. In that case, life is good.
John, you make perfect sense. I was just commenting on the this article related to leaving clinics, that cannot be staffed closed, and the terrible condition of the airports in our critical out islands that need improvement. If we can't get tourists to our islands, they will die. I understand that this is the basic issue of supply and demand. The demand far out strips the supply of resources and I was just coming to the PM's defense on these two issues. I do not know enough to comment on the OBan situation. Have a good day.
Sheeprunner, and all I am saying it is unfortunate that $900,000 was wasted on the ridiculous "Mini Hospital" in Eleuthera, and if you have anything more to add to the list of things that have benefited North Eleuthera in the past 10 years, please do share. wasteful spending does nothing for solving problems that are important to keep the economic viability for North Eleuthera and Exuma workers to continue, and hopefully grow. Too bad on the $900,000 waste. It is atrocious, because that would have gone a long way to repair/replace airports in both North Eleuthera and George Town. That is all I am saying.....
And John, your point with illuminating us with this wasteful spending, that was decided upon years ago, related to what PM Minnis is saying regarding the challenges today? And Sheeprunner, no one made me God, but you can't do it all.
The Prime Minister makes sense on both topics. What good does an empty clinic building do for those in need of medical care? Also Exuma and North Eleuthera airports, with their significant volumes of tourists are an embarrassment. In North Eleuthera, passengers departing have to line up in the road in the flow of automobile and truck traffic often. They herd departing passengers out on a 10 foot concrete strip to cook in the baking sun, because there is no where to queue inside the airport. All the other rambling incoherent comments related to this news story does not change the reasonable and factual conclusions Mr. Minnis is coming to.
